Governor Dayton Kicks Off "Own Your Future" Campaign
Today, Governor Mark Dayton announced the kick off of the state's "Own Your Future" public awareness campaign. The Governor along with Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon, the lead on this program, will be sending more than one million letters to Minnesotans age 40 to 65 this week to urge them to beginning planning for their long-term care needs.
The first phase of this public education effort will include a new state web site, public service announcements, and community meetings. The Department of Human Service web site can be accessed at http://mn.gov/dhs/general-public/own-your-future
Future phases of this program will look at the development of affordable financial products to help Minnesotans pay for long-term care. It will also evaluate possible changes to Medicaid to better align with and encourage private payment for long-term care expenses. The program is a joint effort between the federal and state government and has already been implemented in 26 other states.
