Rothman Appointed as New Commerce Commissioner
Today Governor Dayton announced the appointment of Minneapolis attorney, Mike Rothman to be his commissioner of commerce. Mike is a partner at the Winthrop and Wienstine law firm and has been an insurance company lawyer and lobbyist for several years. I have worked with Mike in the past on various insurance issues at the capitol and believe that he will be an excellent commissioner.
Most recently Mike was one of the attorneys on the Dayton team during the recount. He has also served as a member of the DFL Central Committee.
Governor Dayton reached out to the MIIAB for their input on his selection. Dan Riley had breakfast with Mike last week and came away very impressed with Mike's knowledge about a variety of insurance issues. We both believe he will be accessible to our organization.
Mike will be appointing his team of deputy and assistant commissioners in the days and weeks ahead. The top eight positions at the department are all appointed positions. Dominic Sposeto
