Dear Friends,

May is here; a wonderful month when flowers are abundant. And it's the month in which we honor our Mothers. I am wishing all of you who are mothers (and those of you who take on the role of a mother) a very Happy Mother's Day.

This is an exciting month for Liz and me. We are taking a trip, stateside this year, to Arizona, Utah and Nevada. We will first visit Sedona, move on to the Grand Canyon (with hiking, rafting, mule rides and all!), then off to Bryce and finally ending up in Las Vegas for "a little bling," as Liz likes to say.

I'm going to try and post some pictures of the glorious scenery on my blog and Facebook pages, and I may do some tweets as well. So stayed tuned for wonderful pictures.

This month in the newsletter and Ah-Man Blog, instead of writing about mothers and the Divine Mother, I was inspired to share with you the basic structure on which we build our spirituality.

I invite you to follow the discussion and join in as you are moved.

Namaste,

Michael

THE FOUR PILLARS OF SPIRITUALITY

Before I get into answering the question -- What is the foundation and what are the Four Pillars of our spirituality? -- I think it's important to review what Spirituality is.

Great Teachers, Masters, Prophets and Rishis all have said that Spirituality is "The merging of the human with the Divine."

So how does one go about merging the human with the Divine? I often write and talk about that very topic, but I haven't written about the basic foundation and structure, for the simple reason that most of us have been taught the basic necessities of spiritual life since we were children.

The foundation is your belief in God/Higher Power/Source; a Power greater than ourselves. Without that basic belief, it is like trying to build a structure on sand. Your belief system might hold up for a while, but when trauma or other difficult life experiences arise, you spiral down into depression, pain and, sometimes, you just give up.

I'm not saying you have to have religion, although religion does work. But it's not for everybody all the time. But you do have to believe in God/Source/Higher Power or whatever name or other designation you use. The stronger your belief and commitment is, the more concrete your foundation will be.

The Four Pillars upon which we build our walls and roof are so simple, most of us take them for granted. Others have compromised their pillars and, thus, get blown around when the winds of life blow hard.

The Four Pillars are:

  1. TRUTHFULNESS: to thine own self be true, live within your means
  2. COMMITMENT: to others (work, friendships, etc.) and to marriage vows
  3. NON INJURY: not only in the physical sense, but also in words and thoughts
  4. FAITHFULNESS: to your system of belief in God

Over the next four weeks in the Ah-Man Blog, I will probe a little deeper into each of the four.

In loving trust and peace,

Michael

SPIRITUAL RECOVERY HALF-DAY RETREAT ON JULY 28

On Saturday, July 28, from 10am to 3pm, Michael will lead a Spiritual Recovery Half-Day Retreat at Joshua's Place, 30 Sanford Place, Southampton, NY 11968.

Spiritual Recovery is all-inclusive and non-sectarian; available to any man or woman, regardless of age. It happens when someone is reconnected to Spirit, allowing one to begin to see things from a different perspective. There's usually a common thread that brings one to seek Spiritual Recovery. That thread is pain: physical, mental or emotional.   On rare occasions, it can be a joyous or spectacular life event that brings one to Spiritual Recovery. But in most cases, it will be life's painful events that we explore.

Whether you're a neophyte beginning a new relationship with your Inner Self or you've already had a Spiritual Awakening/Divine Experience, you'll want to deepen and enhance your experience.

Let Michael's vast experience guide you in learning how to enrich your journey to Spiritual Recovery.

The fee for this session is $60 per person.

To reserve your space, contact Joshua's Place at 631-287-4100.
