HONORING OUR INTELLIGENCE
Intelligence is all around us. In nature, amazing things are happening all the time. Some of it we can explain...some of it we can't. But it's happening. I truly enjoy being in nature and experiencing its bountiful intelligence. I can look at stars at night and I'm just astonished at how little I know about this fantastic aspect of creation. And yet, nature just goes on doing her thing. Stars and galaxies coming and going, existing to some of us, and not existing to others. When I look at infants and see the life beaming from them, I'm amazed when I think of how everything had to come together perfectly for them to be who they are. Again, some of it can be explained, but not all of it. Science can explain just about everything, but where does that little spark come from that starts the heart beating? And how do all those tiny nerves know how to connect to the eyes, ears, etc? What intelligence is at work? When I speak of intelligence, I'm speaking of two basic types of intelligence: Intellectual comprehension and Intuitive comprehension. Intellectual comprehension is when you believe in something because of logic and effort. You can explain it, make arguments for it, experiments can prove it, etc. It is something that can be seen, heard, tasted, or experienced by the senses in some form or another. It is of "this world"... it is within creation. Intuitive intelligence is based on faith; a relaxed acceptance of "what is," free of any doubt or opinion. It is something you know deep down inside of you that you can't explain, but you know. It is not something that can be seen with our ordinary senses, it is not within creation. There is a big difference between the two, isn't there? Have you ever tried to explain the existence of God to an atheist, or to a scientist who doesn't believe in God? If someone is only using their intellectual intelligence to understand something that is beyond intellectual comprehension, they will never be able to accept it or believe in it. That is why it's impossible to explain faith to someone who does not have faith. It's because they are using intellectual intelligence, not intuitive intelligence. So guess what? They are right when they say God does not exist. Because when you are using only intellectual intelligence in trying to understand something that is not limited to creation, but is creation and much more than creation, it is incomprehensible to them. To them, God does not exist, and when using only the intellectual intelligence God will not exist for them. Trying to understand something with the senses that is beyond the senses will never work. Creative Intelligence is creation itself, but not limited to creation. God is unlimited, Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent. So, over the next month I will share with you different ways to Honor Our Intelligence, both intellectual and intuitive. I invite you to keep up with (and join in) the discussion at the Ah-Man Blog. |
