Lone Tree Chamber Chatter

News & Events from your Chamber, June 2011

Top

Greetings!

The Chamber has been busy the last month, the Annual Golf Outing at the Lone Tree Golf Club followed by the Business Showcase proved to be a great value in terms of visibility and fun for all those who participated. A special thanks to our event sponsors and Expo participants - who without their support, none of these great community events would be possible.

For July we are gearing up now for the Liberty Dash, 5K Run/Walk at Sweetwater Park. This annual event, previously known as the Firecracker 5K, is under new organization this year! The Chamber in partnership with the City felt it was important to keep the tradition alive. In that spirit we teamed up, and in a few short weeks persevered to make it happen for 2011!  Starting in 2012, the Chamber will fully consider the continuation of this event as a Chamber event. 5K's bring community together, and the Chamber believes that this type of community event is a great value to our members in terms of visibility and member benefit. We appreciate your continued support.

Our Membership continues to grow, and more of you are engaging in our events and programs than ever before - thanks!  If you have an interest in being part of the Ambassador team dedicated to our continued growth and retention, please email David Burcham, FirstBank, or Sheila Massman, Farmers Insurance, as they are the Co-Chairs, and they would welcome the opportunity to speak with you.

Front Range Family Eye Care & The Packaging Store are graciously hosting our July Business After Hours on July 6, 5-7 pm. These businesses are located at Yosemite and Lincoln in the Safeway Shopping Plaza. Please REGISTER online, I look forward to seeing you there.

A Taste of Lone Tree, Food & Art Festival is coming in August, and as you know it requires a team of volunteers to run smoothly. if you are interested in volunteering, you can contact this years Volunteer coordinator, Marcy Thompson, First Commercial Bank! or the event Co-Chairs: Donna Russell or Vivian Kovacs, Landscape Forms.

This annual premier chamber event is a cornerstone to the chambers community events. For two days a year, since 2008, the Chamber has provided a venue where Lone Tree restaurants & hi-end artisans can showcase their offerings. For 2011, we are pleased to be partnering with Lincoln Commons as the host, and is excited to be offering tours of the Lone Tree Arts Center for interested Taste patrons during the weekend. Don't miss this wonderful event.

Please remember to use the online member portal  (accessible through the home page of the website), to keep your business listing updated, add HOT DEALS or list JOB OPENINGS and EVENTS.

Of course anytime you need information on upcoming Chamber or Member events, you can VISIT THE EVENTS CALENDAR online.

Weren't we just celebrating the New Year?  Now it's time for fireworks and a quick vacation before the kids head back to school!  We just wrapped up a wonderful event, our Business Expo and our Golf Tournament; a special thanks to the Lone Tree Library and FirstBank for their presenting sponsorships for those events. As usual, our Colorado weather added to the day, but it didn't stop our golfers from having a great day on the course.  A special thanks to Michelle Holbrook, our President/Exec Director, for pictures of all of the events, check out our website to view for yourself.

After the 5K, we have our annual premeir event, A Taste of Lone Tree, Art & Food Festival, happening August 13 & 14 at Lincoln Commons at RidgeGate. A big THANKS to Donna Russell and Vivian Kovacs, Landscape Forms., for taking on this challenge.   Marcy Thompson, First Commercial Bank, has graciously accepted the responsibility of coordinating volunteers for the weekend.  Bless you Marcy, that job is a lot like herding cats!  Please contactl her if you would like to be a part of this special event.

Have a great summer!

Giving Tree

The Giving Tree - School Supply Drive

Three years ago Douglas County School District hired a part time Homeless Student Liaison. Because of increased need the position is now full-time. There are currently over 800 homeless students in DC schools. This number illustrates the growing need in our schools.

The number of students who qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch program has doubled in the last two years. Though the number is relatively low, it's growing. Eight percent of kids, or approximately 4880 students, now receive aid through the program.

Fill the Gap is a program of the DC Educational Foundation. The program is funded through grants and events. School supplies are just one of the many resources they provide. Last year they handed out almost 15,000 school supplies to over 500 students and teachers.

The Lone Tree Chamber of Commerce is proud to support the Giving Tree and their annual school supply drive.

You can too, simply drop off your donation cash or supply on July 23rd, at the Safeway at Lincoln & Yosemite, 9-2 pm.

On behalf of all of our Douglas County children, thank you for your support of this wonderful program.
