tlTHOUGHT LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE

Our full Thought Leadership Committee (TLC) co-chaired by Anne Petera/LMCO & Harvey Johnson/BAE Systems met last week to discuss a number of recent and upcoming Council programs/activities, and brainstormed initiatives going forward.  Members of the TLC proposed building on the Council's "National Conversation" series to develop an expansive symposium a couple times each year to address the future of the "Homeland Security Enterprise."  A special subcommittee is being formed to further explore this idea and provide member support to this effort in order to make it successful.  If you are interested in participating on this planning subcommittee or have any questions, please contact Krista immediately.  The full TLC will meet again in early January.

In addition, our workgroups held a number of meetings during October with key officials, including:

  • The Homeland Security Enterprise Workgroup met with key officials from the Management Directorate.
  • The Cyber Security Workgroup met with a key official from the DHS National Cyber Security Division.
  • The Information Sharing Workgroup met with a key official from the Homeland Infrastructure Threat and Risk Analysis Center.

The Council's special topic workgroups continue to actively engage in meetings with DHS officials and congressional staff to exchange ideas, share the varied points-of-view and perspectives of industry, and to discuss how best to develop a collaborative approach to the Council members' issues and mission.  Members are encouraged to become involved in the full committee and/or one of the workgroups:

  • Advancement of Technologies - Co-Chairs: Jill Cohen/DuPont and Mike Kelly/TASC
  • Cyber/IT Security Infrastructure - Co-Chairs: Scott Price/GDIT and Marty Mackes/Unisys
  • Homeland Security Enterprise - Co-Chairs: Rick Saunders/Booz Allen Hamilton and Donald Thomas/Ernst & Young
  • Protection, Preparedness and Resilience - Co-Chairs: Barbara Rosenbaum/Capgemini and Joel Griffin/Unisys
  • Information Sharing - Co-Chairs: Phil Kangas/Grant Thornton and Wayne Lucernoni/ Harris IT Services

To become involved in the Council's Thought Leadership Committee and/or one of our specific topic workgroups, please contact Krista.

COUNCIL CONCLUDES 9/10/11 PROJECT

Last month, the Council concluded its yearlong "9/10/11 Project" that issued 14 monographs that illustrated our nation's efforts on critical homeland security issues; discussed how far we have come over the past ten years; and shared the solutions industry and government have worked together on to address these issues.

Each sponsored monograph was included as an insert in GSN Magazine and sent out as an eBlast in Homeland Security Today.  The Council thanks our sponsors, outside writers, our graduate fellows, and the Council's Project Directors, Kristina Tanasichuk followed by Krista Sweet for their tireless work on this project.  We want to specifically also recognize all of the Council members and strategic partners who agreed to be interviewed, and thank them for providing their invaluable expertise and perspectives to the series.

A special compendium of all the monographs will be published in early 2012, and be made available to public sector leaders, the community of interest, and political campaigns to understand industry's perspective on the evolution of homeland security in our nation.  Click here to read the monographs or learn more about the "9/10/11 Project".

Thank you to all of our sponsors:

testimonyCOUNCIL TESTIFIES BEFORE HOUSE HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE

Marc Pearl, President & CEO of the Council, testified on October 13th before the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Transportation Security, at a hearing entitled "TSA Reform: Exploring Innovations in Technology Procurement to Stimulate Job Growth, Part II." The Council's testimony focused on how the Transportation Security Administration, in particular, and the Department of Homeland Security, as a whole, can work more effectively with the private sector to improve the technology acquisition and procurement process. This was the fourth time this year that the Council has been invited to testify before Congress. The Subcommittee will host a federal panel at the final hearing in the series on November 3rd. Click here to read the testimony. Click here to read the press release.

swborder EXECUTIVE TOUR

Registration for the Council's upcoming Executive Tour of the Southwest Border is now full.  If you would like to be placed on the wait list please contact Jonathan Tabb.  Given the extremely positive response from our members for these special fact-finding programs, we will be planning future visits to key locales both inside and outside of the DC area, to such places as El Paso and the NYC security hubs.  We welcome our members' input in identifying other interesting and critical locations that would be beneficial to encouraging greater industry-government engagements.
