The full Thought Leadership Committee - co-chaired by Anne Petera/LMCO & Harvey Johnson/BAE Systems - will hold its next meeting on Friday, October 28th at 9am. Please contact Krista to RSVP.

 

Our special topic workgroups have been actively involved in reaching out to and meeting with DHS officials and congressional staff to exchange ideas and to discuss how best to develop a collaborative approach to the Council members' issues and mission.  All members of the Council are encouraged to become involved in the full committee and/or one of the workgroups:

PUBLIC - PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS MONOGRAPH TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 10TH  

 

The Council's 9/10/11 Project series' final monograph will focus on the successful Public-Private Partnerships that have served to better prepare our nation over the past decade. The monograph highlights the work of homeland security solutions providers who support the government and its missions by developing the technologies, products and services that keep America safe. Look out for its release on October 10th.

 

Each sponsored monograph was included as an insert in GSN Magazine and sent out as an eBlast in Homeland Security Today. Click here to read the article (page 15) in GSN outlining the entire year-long series.

swborder EXECUTIVE TOUR OF THE SW BORDER

The Council is finalizing the planning of a special fact-finding Executive Tour of the Southwest Border for our senior executives. The 3½ day long program will likely take place the week of December 5th. It will include special tours and roundtable discussions with federal and state officials in San Diego/San Ysidro and Tucson/Nogales. septertMEMBERS MEET WITH DHS UNDER SECRETARY FOR INTELLIGENCE & ANALYSIS

septertCaryn Wagner, DHS Under Secretary for Intelligence & Analysis, spoke to members at our September Executive Roundtable. Under Secretary Wagner discussed her work coordinating intelligence activities across DHS, fusion centers, and other law enforcement agencies across government. Additionally, she talked about tackling I&A's vast mission scope and potential challenges surrounding current federal budget cuts. Special thanks to Council board member Linda Keene Solomon of Deloitte, for moderating the discussion.

receptionINDUSTRY - GOVERNMENT RECEPTION

We held our quarterly Homeland Security Industry-Government Reception on Thursday, September 22nd. Over 80 members of the Council and special senior-level guests from the public and private sector attended. We hope to see you, your colleagues and public sector guests of yours at the next reception!

The Council has been part of early discussions with other companies and associations that are looking to form an informal coalition to start a dialogue with DHS about ways to improve the marketing and utilization of the SAFETY Act. If you are interested in being part of these discussions, please contact Melissa.

tradeDEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE TRADE MISSION

On September 28th, Council members participated in an aviation industry roundtable at the Department of Commerce with Director General Ram Prasad Neupane of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.  The discussion was sponsored by the International Trade Administration with the purpose of bringing industry representatives together to hear about several large-scale aviation infrastructure development projects in Nepal, worth an estimated $865 million over the next 5 years.  These projects include refurbishing their International Airport, upgrading two domestic airports to regional international airports, and building a second international airport. In addition to air traffic management and airport infrastructure improvements, they are in need of surveillance and screening technologies. If you were unable to attend this event and would like to receive information, please contact Krista.

cloudCONGRESSIONAL DISCUSSION ON CLOUD COMPUTING IN THE FEDERAL SPACE
The Council was asked to facilitate a meeting focused on security of the cloud, with a small group of members with staff from the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies. Our members were able to provide their various points of view regarding securing data in the cloud, in advance of a congressional hearing scheduled for October 6th.

The Border Patrol Foundation's 3rd Annual Recognition Dinner will be held on Tuesday, November 8th at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in downtown DC. The event honors all who serve with the U.S. Border Patrol in securing America's borders. If you are interested in purchasing a seat at the Council's table, please contact Melissa.
