NEW COUNCIL
STAFF
Jonathan Tabb has just joined our full time staff. Jon will be responsible for handling many of the logistics of programs, coordinating our web presence, managing the office, providing executive support to Marc, and working on special projects. Before coming to the Council he worked at TechAmerica as a Policy Analyst for defense and procurement issues. Jon is currently completing his master's degree in security studies at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service where he is concentrating in terrorism and sub-state violence.
We are also pleased to announce that we have two new Graduate Fellows who will be involved in research projects and event support. Melissa Grant, a Georgetown University graduate student, recently graduated from Spelman College where she focused on international studies. Alex Whitaker, a George Washington University graduate student, most recently worked on the Hill as a Legislative Assistant focusing on defense issues.
We are very much looking forward to having these new members of the Council team on board! Please introduce yourself to them at the next Council event.

THOUGHT LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE
The full Thought Leadership Committee convened in August, and discussed a number of items including the possibility of the formation of an industry advisory council, a Southwest border tour, and our desire to compile your capabilities so that we can highlight your solution offerings to our public-sector counterparts.
Examples of four sentence capability statements were passed out at the last TLC meeting and are provided below. Please provide as many of these statements as you want publicized as soon as possible to Krista, but please no later than Friday, September 9th. (Nothing will be made public without your authorization).
Here is an example to show what we are looking for:
Law Enforcement Information Exchange (LInX): Law enforcement officials needed the ability to share and gain access to criminal case and record information across state lines and agencies with less time and effort. Northrop Grumman created the LInX technology, which breaks down artificial jurisdictional and technical barriers, by linking together and analyzing the data in records management systems of municipal, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies across the country. This mobile and desktop analytical system is in use in eleven regional locations around the U.S. and by more than 800 law enforcement agencies. The result is that law enforcement officers at all levels have access to increasing amounts of critical data that would normally be missed or unavailable and can solve crimes more efficiently, effectively, and with less time.
As you know, our workgroups are actively involved in reaching out to DHS officials to exchange ideas and to discuss how best to develop a collaborative approach to the Council's mission. We are encouraging involvement in the full committee by all of our member companies, and are desirous of getting SME support/involvement in one of the workgroups: - Advanced Security Technologies - Co-Chairs: Jill Cohen/DuPont and Mike Kelly/TASC
- Cyber/IT Security Infrastructure - Co-Chairs: Scott Price/GDIT and Marty Mackes/Unisys
- Homeland Security Enterprise - Co-Chairs: Rick Saunders/Booz Allen Hamilton and Donald Thomas/Ernst & Young
- Protection, Preparedness and Resilience - Co-Chairs: Barbara Rosenbaum/Capgemini and Joel Griffin/Unisys
- Information Sharing - Co-Chairs: Phil Kangas/Grant Thornton and Wayne Lucernoni/ Harris IT Services
To become involved in the Council's Thought Leadership Committee and/or one of our specific topic workgroups, please contact Krista. |
THE 9/10/11 PROJECT | |

THE EVOLUTION OF HOMELAND SECURITY MONOGRAPH TO BE RELEASED ON FRIDAY
As we approach the 10th anniversary of 9/11, our country will reflect on how much has changed and how much more prepared we are a decade later. Since last September, the Council's "9/10/11 Project" has examined how far we've come as a nation and how much more prepared we are a full decade since the day before the devastating attacks of 9/11. Our latest monograph on the "Evolution of Homeland Security" will be released on Friday, September 9th. This monograph, sponsored by Deloitte, describes the history of homeland security, the stand up of the Department, and how the landscape has 'evolved' over the past decade. Our final piece in the series of 14 monographs will focus on the critical role industry solution providers in particular and the private sector in general has and must continue to play in order for our nation to continue to be on the path of being safer and more secure.
Each monograph is included as an insert in GSN Magazine, and its timeline is interactive on our website - illustrating the events, incidents, and critical government responses and industry solutions pertinent to that month's topic. Click here for more information on the Council's "9/10/11 Project."
The Council thanks Deloitte for their sponsorship of this month's monograph.

EXECUTIVE TOUR OF THE SW BORDER
The Council is in the process of planning an Executive Tour of the Southwest border for our senior executives for early November. We are working with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Army North's Joint Task Force in putting together a substantive program. If you and/or a senior colleague are interested in being part of this fact-finding executive tour and helping to plan the substance of the program, please contact Krista immediately.

SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
As a member of FEMA's National Preparedness Month Coalition, the Council would like to remind you that September is National Preparedness Month. The Council is proud to be part of the Coalition, which helps educate and empower Americans to prepare for, and respond to emergencies. We encourage all members to join this national effort.
