project91011THE 9/10/11 PROJECT

We want your perspective!

As you know, the Council launched our 9/10/11 Project in September, looking at how far the country has come since the day before 9/11/2001. The monographs will be available on the Council's website, and published monthly as a special centerfold in Government Security News.

The Council is working very hard to assure that each of our members' perspectives and solutions are represented in these monographs.  For each, we submit a list of interested contacts to our writer to interview.  Senior subject matter experts from our leadership and our thought leadership working groups are asked to be part of this project.   Please let us know if you'd like to be interviewed for a future monograph.

In addition to the interviews for the written monograph, we also want to ensure that each member company has the opportunity to provide a video interview to accompany the series on our website.  Several of you have expressed interest in highlighting your company, and we'd like you to be featured talking about what role you/your company has had in one of the topic areas for the monograph.  If you would like your company's perspective and/or solutions included in these monographs, please contact Kristina Tanasichuk as soon as possible.

Sponsorship is also available.  December's BioHazard monograph has been graciously sponsored by the Tauri Group.  January's monograph on critical infrastructure protection is still available.  Please contact us immediately if you are interested in the CIP monograph.

Future topics include:

-Biohazard (December 2010)                                       -Weapons of Mass Destruction

-Critical Infrastructure Protection (January 2010)         -Domestic Terrorism

cresseykeynote

Executive Brief: What Would Incentivize a Stronger Cyber Security Environment?

The Council hosted an Executive Brief focused on how to incentivize the private sector to achieve a more secure cyber environment on October 13, 2010. Given the vast amount of digital infrastructure owned and operated by industry, assuring private sector buy-in and participation is critical to any national cyber security strategy. Roger Cressey, President and Founder, Good Harbor Consulting gave the keynote address, followed by a panel discussion between industry and government cyber security experts.

Speakers included: Bob Fecteau, BAE Systems & IT-ISAC Representative; Bruce McConnell, NPPD, DHS; Michael Merritt, Office of Investigations, U.S. Secret Service; Brandon Milhorn, U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Ty Sagalow, Zurich North America Commercial.  Sponsored by Council member IBM, the program focused on what types of incentives exist, initiatives that have potential for future success, and the challenges that the nation faces in securing cyberspace. Throughout the discussion, information sharing and cooperative relationships between the private and public sectors were identified as key factors in improving cyber security.

IBM's Cyber Lead Dr. Steven P. Bucci concluded the program by delivering the capstone keynote. Following the program, members and guests attended the Council's quarterly Industry-Government Reception. Click here to watch the program.     Click here to read the news coverage in HS Today.
