| MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO |
|
The Council held its Annual Members Meeting last week with 45 senior executives from 30 member companies in attendance. IBM generously hosted us for the 2nd year in a row. Members were updated on the successful programs and initiatives of the Council in 2009 and discussed the plans for 2010.
Our new Board Chair, Jack Mayer gave his "State of the Council" overview, then he and I led a lively discussion on the direction and priorities of the Council going forward. I hope that you will continue to be actively involved in the Council and look forward to seeing you at a future committee meeting, program and/or reception.
Sincerely,

|

We invite you to participate in an extraordinary event, the first annual Aspen Security Forum, to be held this summer (June 28-June 30, 2010) in Aspen, Colorado. The forum is sponsored by the Aspen Institute, GSN: Government Security News, and The New York Times.
The Aspen Security Forum will bring together top-level government decision makers, industry leaders, think tank and academic policy experts, and top media figures to discuss and debate the key homeland security-related issues of the day, including aviation security; maritime security; border security; mass transit security; critical infrastructure and "soft target" protection; emergency preparedness; intelligence; and counterterrorism strategy.
In addition to exploring these critical issues with the nation's leading policymakers and thinkers, the forum will also provide an occasion for sustained personal interaction in one of the country's most beautiful meeting spots. Confirmed speakers to date include Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen; House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson; former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff; former White House Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Adviser Fran Townsend; former Los Angeles Police Department Chief Bill Bratton; the United Nations' point man on Al Qaeda, Richard Barrett; the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, Husain Haqqani, and the State Department's Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Ambassador-at-Large Daniel Benjamin. | AMERICAN SECURITY CHALLENGE |
The Council will once again be a platinum sponsor for the American Security Challenge -- founded by our own Kristina Tanasichuk. The ASC, which grew from awarding $100,000 to one emerging technology firm in 2008, expanded to provide over $10 million in venture funding and teaming agreements with applicants. The ASC can help you:
>find your next teaming partner;
>find unique emerging security companies that can fill a technology need for your next project;
>find a small to mid-size company ripe for acquisition;
>solve a security challenge internal to your company;
>understand the trends in the homeland security market;
>understand the needs of numerous public sector agencies including DHS' S&T, DARPA, E-ARPA among others.
The event engages a number of components of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and provides for unique partnership and deal flow networking. More information is available at www.AmericanSecurityChallenge.com. Contact Kristina to learn more about how the ASC can help you meet your challenges. | |
