| ELECTION OF 2010 BOARD MEMBERS |
Jack Mayer, Executive Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton, was elected Chairman of the Homeland Security & Defense Business Council's Board of Directors.
Dave Abel, Vice President and Partner, IBM Global Business Services was elected Vice Chairman, and Mark Johnson, Senior Vice President for Public Sector, Oracle was elected Secretary.
Linda Keene Solomon, Principal, Deloitte Consulting; Cos DiMaggio, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, The Tauri Group; Marcus Collier, Senior Vice President, Civilian and Homeland Security Solutions, General Dynamics IT; will all serve on the Board of Directors.

| DR. GARZA ADDRESSES COUNCIL MEMBERS |
Dr. Alexander Garza, Assistant Secretary for Health Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, participated in an Executive Roundtable with Council members on January 27th at Charlie Palmers on Capitol Hill. Moderated by Cos DiMaggio of The Tauri Group, Dr. Garza discussed interagency coordination and coordination with other federal agencies on medical and health matters. Additionally, Dr. Garza discussed information sharing with state and local governments, contingency plans to deal with health hazards, and his hopes to bolster chemical protective capabilities and improve bio detection. Dr. Garza provided insight on the work the Office of Health Affairs is doing to protect the nation from health hazards. A special thanks to Cos for moderating the event and providing Dr. Garza with industry specific questions and concerns. |
| THOUGHT LEADERSHIP WORKING GROUPS FORMING! |
The Thought Leadership Committee is in the process of finalizing the Council's platform on federal contracting. The final document will be distributed to all members for final comments this week. The Committee is also moving ahead to form working groups on specific topic areas (available from Kristina). | AMERICAN SECURITY CHALLENGE |
 The Council will once again be a platinum sponsor for the American Security Challenge -- founded by our own Kristina Tanasichuk. The ASC, which grew from awarding $100,000 to one emerging technology firm in 2008, expanded to provide over $10 million in venture funding and teaming agreements with applicants. The event engages a number of components of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and provides for unique partnership and deal flow networking. We encourage you to support this important event. | FY2011 BUDGET RELEASED |
Following the release of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) $56.3 billion fiscal year 2011 budget request, the Council participated in a conference call with DHS to discuss the overview of the budget. For more information on the budget, please click here. In the weeks and months to come the Council will be providing our members with follow up analysis on congressional action regarding the homeland security budget for FY'11, as well as information on homeland security-related budget items located in other federal agencies. |

| COUNCIL'S NEW DIGITAL LIBRARY -- SUBMIT YOUR WHITE PAPERS TODAY! |
As part of our new website, the Council has started to compile and develop a Digital Library that features your white papers and thought leadership pieces. Currently organized by topic, the Council invites you to submit papers you'd like included in this comprehensive resource of private sector thought leadership (and/or forward this to your marketing division) to assure we have represented your company and your views. Mike McCarthy, General Counsel/Deputy Staff Director of the U.S. House Committee on Government Reform spoke to approximately 25 Council members on January 15. Mike discussed cybersecurity issues and the Committee's plans to review the progress in contracting reform, stimulus oversight, and current legislative proposals for green technology. Thank you to Craig Sharman, vice chair of the Council's Government Affairs Committee and Tyco for hosting this meeting. |

The Council will once again support the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation's annual dinner. Given the new Administration and Secretary Napolitano's presence last year the HSDBC would like to have a strong presence at the event.
