2011 Annual Report & Mid-Year Update

Dear SDG Member,

First and foremost, thank you for being a member of San Diego Grantmakers (SDG).  Your support and involvement in SDG is what has enabled us to accomplish all that we did last year to further our mission to connect, educate, develop and inspire organized philanthropy to be more effective individually and collectively.

It is with pleasure that we share the San Diego Grantmakers 2011 Annual Report, which presents a snapshot of the year's activities and achievements within six strategic goal areas.  We hope you enjoy our new, "green" approach to sharing the report in an online format that utilizes imagery to convey information in a way that's visually engaging.  (Still prefer hard copies?  Don't worry -- it's printer friendly.)

Our work continues! A Mid-Year Update

With feedback from members like you, the SDG Board and staff engaged in a strategic planning process in 2011 that we've begun to apply to our efforts this year and will continue to refine.  Here's a bit of what we're currently doing:

  • Programming: Following a program model that is more member-driven, including member- and collaboration-led programs and forming grantmaker learning communities
  • Membership: Focusing all staff and member leadership on the implementation of our 2012 Strategic Membership Recruitment Plan, including a six-month guest membership offer that has been positively received
  • Public Policy: Nurturing relationships with local, state and national policymakers in the form of co-hosting a San Diego Mayoral Forum, organizing a state budget program with Senator Christine Kehoe, and meeting with federal elected and agency representatives in Washington D.C.
  • Communications: Streamlining our communications with members and other stakeholders, emphasizing quality over quantity in each of our now quarterly newsletters, resource and program emails, and updated website resources.
  • Member Collaborations: Continuing the momentum of our five existing and two reinvigorated member collaborations with the help of two new consultants
  • Governance: Developing a formal business plan that will provide the framework in which to achieve our long-term goals

It is rewarding to reflect on your individual charitable work as well as what we've accomplished together in pursuit of strengthening philanthropy.  We hope you also feel a sense of shared success as you read this summary of our efforts, and we look forward to our continued work together.

Respectfully,

Nancy Jamison
