Anything But Business as Usual

Yes. It's only another calendar day. But, for some reason, January 1st inspires us to reevaluate, recalculate, and revitalize our businesses.

To help you close out the old year and start the New Year, here are suggestions to get you started.

Personally, for annual goal-setting, I set aside a half-day in December and another session in January. I leave the office and go somewhere quiet to reflect and write my goals and plans to make my business a success for the year.

What does it take to get you in the flow - one long session or several shorter ones?

Business Quote
"The reason most people don't reach their goals is that they don't define them or seriously consider them believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them." Denis Watley

The House --Undecorated

Decorating is fun and festive, isn't it? It makes the house look new and inviting and adds a glimmer of interest to your daily activities during December.

But, undecorating in January can be a letdown. Have you ever been tempted to toss everything into one box and shove it in the basement or attic so the house gets back to normal quickly? That can spell disaster.

Business Organizing Question --Ask Sue

Q.  I'm always rushing from one meeting to the next, one conference call to the next, from appointments to my home office. How can I slow down and be on time more often?

A.  When you book appointments in your calendar, add your travel time to and from the meeting.  If you don't travel, add in an extra 15 minutes per appointment. This gives you a mental breather to get ready for the next appointment. If you're early to an appointment, have reading with you, or your action/to do list, so you can fill the time usefully. Use the reminder feature on your phone, set to 15 minutes before your next meeting. You can start each meeting with "I have a hard stop at XYZ time."

You'll be on time and get a mental break!
