The Architecture Advanced Graduate Design One studio recently participated in a four-day workshop with Yasha Grobman, post doctoral fellow in Harvard Graduate School of Design, as part of their semester-long collaboration with the city of Orlando, through DCP's Citylab-Orlando.

The 48 students are developing design ideas for the city's Bridge District, a section of Orlando between Washington and Church streets that is split by Interstate 4.

Important things to remember:
1) If you would like your pledge to remain exactly the same as last year, click "Continue with my pledge as shown." This applies even if you have agency designations. You will get a confirmation page that shows the amount pledged and any agency designations. If this is not correct, you can go back and change it.
2) If you would like to make changes to last year's pledge, select "Change my pledge and/or designations."
3) For cash/check donations, please print out the UFCC receipt and give it to Julie Frey along with your cash/check.
4) Payroll deductions begin the first pay period of the New Year.
5) Want to stop receiving UFCC emails? Log in and either indicate your donation or select the "no donation" option.
6) Check your junk mail if you aren't receiving the UFCC emails.
7) Pop-up blockers may prevent you from seeing the UFCC window. If you are having problems seeing the UFCC window, visit the UFCC Web site.

Contact Julie Frey if you have any questions.

  Disaster Training Seminar:
Students learn to evaluate disaster-ridden structures

On Sept. 14, two graduate Advanced Structures classes gathered to learn how to evaluate building structures after natural disasters, such as hurricanes and earthquakes.

The speaker was Michael Lingerfelt, AIA, LEED, an Orlando based architect currently providing similar training through AIA Florida to architects and engineers throughout the country.

The event was organized by architecture structures faculty Michael Kuenstle and Nawari Nawari.

"Bringing a person like that to our school is part of a continued effort to bridge between academy, profession and community," Kuenstle said.
