Greetings!
Happy Holidays!
I don't know about you, but I love this time of year. All the hustle and bustle, sights and sounds, and just plain excitement in the air. And, with all of the cooking, cleaning, gift buying, decorating, traveling and so on that takes place - all in a four week period - I am actually going to ask you to do one more thing.
As you sit by the fire sipping eggnog I encourage you to reflect on your business or job in 2009 and think about what you will do the same and differently in 2010. Think about what worked and what didn't. I have included some guidelines (in the blue column to the left) to help guide you through this process. If you start thinking now, you will be able to put your plan together in early January and kick the new year off right.
While I have already spent countless hours planning and implementing new programs and services designed to make your life easier in 2010, I will be joining you in this annual process of reflection as it always serves to renew my energy and get me excited about the possibilities for the upcoming year.
I hope you enjoy the holidays and time with your family and friends. For me, my oldest son will be home from college and my parents will be visiting from New York, so we will have a full house. Adding to the holiday ambiance is the unusually cold weather we are experiencing in Southern California. Now, don't laugh, but the daytime temps have been in the 40's and 50's. That is really cold for us. We are actually wearing coats and LOVING it! Remember, I said don't laugh. I am fully aware that we are a bunch of weather wimps, as I am reminded frequently by my family in Buffalo!
Wishing you a heartfelt happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.

| AND THE WINNER IS.....YOU! |
Congratulations to the winners of VIP admission tickets to
IAAPA, the amusement industry's largest tradeshow and conference, held in Las
Vegas last month. We were delighted to
provide these valuable tickets through a random drawing to those who emailed us
with their answer to the question: What
is your biggest business challenge?
A HUGE thank you to those who submitted their heartfelt responses
as this information helps us find ways to assist you. For the most part, we found the answers varied
little in their core issues. We have
ranked the top five challenges below, with number one being the most common.
The Top 5 Business Challenges
1.
Marketing - how, what & where
2.
Employees - difficulties finding good employees
3. The Economy- people not spending as much
4. Customer Service - a desire to consistently provide good service
5.
Seasonality
- what to do in "down seasons"
As you can see, you are not alone in your
challenges. Chances are you can identify
with the hundreds who wrote to us in one or more of the challenges above. Stay tuned to our bimonthly newsletters and
website as we develop information designed to help you alleviate some of these
issues. There are great things on the horizon!

TRADESHOWS...TO GO OR NOT TO GO
|
It's the age old question - well maybe not age old, but certainly something we hear a lot at the Association - "Which tradeshows and conferences, if any, should I attend?".
We believe it's important to attend your industry tradeshows for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, that's where you will get cutting edge information geared to your industry. The educational sessions assembled at most of the shows are phenomenal. Attendees typically walk away excited, ready and armed to do battle in their marketplace.
The expos affiliated with the conferences are filled with companies which represent the latest ideas and product lines available to your industry as well as the tried, true and trusted staple companies you may have relied on for years.
For our part, we love to participate in shows for the reasons listed above, but our greatest pleasure comes with meeting our members and friends face to face.
With tradeshow season in full
swing, we recommend taking a few minutes to investigate which shows
would prove valuable to you and your company in 2010. Visit our homepage for a list of national industry tradeshows.
We look forward to meeting you in person!
