Employee Giving Boosts Foundation's Record Year

As the official numbers are tallied, it is safe to say that together, donors pulled together this year to exceed our goal to grow the Foundation by $217,000!

Funds raised supported the Scholarship Fund, which helps support the College's institutional aid budget. Last year, nearly $2 Million was awarded to our students. Over 90% of our students need financial aid to help meet their educational goals.

Of note in contributing to these efforts were employees, over half of whom participated in Feeling Good About Goodwin, and contributed nearly $35,000.

To participate in FY11 Feeling Good About Goodwin, visit: www.goodwin.edu/giving_employee.asp

Don't miss your chance to score some **Badge Bling** as well as the option to support the NEW Student Support Services Fund!

Calling all Proposals Department/Program Level Assessment Mini-Grants

Institutional Effectiveness is offering assessment mini-grants of up to $400 to support new assessment activities. The proposed assessment can be at the student, program, department or institutional level.

Priority will be given to proposals that focus on student learning, promote collaboration among the campus and external community, and/or document or result in plans for curricular or student service improvements. For non-academic departments, proposals can also focus on improved efficiency and/or delivery of student support services.

Some examples: Focus groups to ask students about departmental survey data or other measures of student learning. Instructors meeting to discuss what students are learning and related teaching and assessment methods. Outside review to discuss student work and related teaching/assessment methods. Pilot a small sample instrument that measures learning in the major (e.g., ETS Field Test) and discuss the results at a staff luncheon. Attend an assessment conference to learn more. For example, see www.neean.org/about.

Proposals should be brief (1 page) and should include contact information, Department Chair approval, purpose and description of activity, budget, and timeline. Funds may pay for developing or purchasing assessment tools, travel, registration fees, refreshments for focus group or faculty meeting, printing, mailings, and stipends for bringing external reviewers or evaluators to the College.

Email your proposal to Craig Esposito, Director of Educational Assessment cesposito@goodwin.edu. Recipients must write a brief, one page summary report upon completion of the project.
