Magnet School Update
Connecticut River Academy Set To Open This Month
At the River Campus, an innovative new magnet high school will start classes August 30.
Students at Goodwin's Connecticut River Academy will use laptops rather than textbooks
in most classes, and the surrounding area, which includes hundreds of acres of open space
owned by the College, will serve as a "living laboratory" for river ecology studies.

Constitution Week
Event Series Celebrates And Debates Our Freedoms
The Library Advocacy committee has planned events to celebrate the United States
Constitution September 13-17.
Attorney Richard Voigt will speak on the Constitution's
second amendment and religious qualification for presidency. A panel discussion will
include Professor Brian Murphy on rights of the accused, Professor Joseph Gillen on gun
rights, and another speaker on immigration. That forum will be open for general comments
and questions from the audience. Also during Constitution Week, the committee plans to
hold a lively discussion between conservative authority, Professor Mike Rotondo, and
liberal stalwart, Professor Howard Satinsky. Dates and locations for these events will
be announced on the College's website. Finally, in support of the freedom to read
protected by the Constitution, a series of posters on banned or challenged books with
the attacking and supporting evidence will fill the library corridor. Students and
faculty having suggestions for other events focusing attention on the Constitution are
invited to contact Marilyn Nowlan in the library.
