Goodwin To Host Health Fair

Goodwin College is holding a Community Health and Wellness Day on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Vendors, educators, and students will present information about healthy lifestyle choices, healthcare options, alternative medicine, and "green" living, as well as offer health screenings. The public is welcome, and anyone interested in sponsoring a table may contact Barbara Morey in the Nursing Department at 860-528-4111 ext. 6971 or at bmorey@goodwin.edu.

  • The Alumni Leadership Committee is sponsoring a Bone Marrow Donor screening 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the health fair. According to the National Marrow Donor Program, there is a particular need for black, Hispanic, and Asian donors, and the screening is as simple as giving a cheek swab.

Half Moon Visit

Over 2,000 visitors toured the Half Moon during a week of events at Goodwin College in July. The ship arrived at the College after a weeklong "Voyage of Discovery" in which a crew of middle school students from area schools learned to pilot the ship and take detailed scientific measurements, including the collection of water depth and tide data. Special thanks to Pratt & Whitney for their support of the voyage. For a day-by-day recap, click here for the ship's log.
