River Campus Dedication May 1
The official dedication of the River Campus will be held May 1 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will welcome state officials, delegates from other colleges, business leaders, students, alumni, faculty, and staff to celebrate the opening of the new campus and a new chapter in the life of Goodwin College. College Wins Award for River Campus Project
Goodwin College's River Campus project was honored with a Blue Ribbon Award for best real estate development in Connecticut at the 14th Annual CT Real Estate Awards Dinner March 25. The CT Real Estate Exchange selected the college's submission from 32 projects in the state, including those of Aetna, Yale, Walgreens, University of Hartford, and several hospitals.
Goodwin to Host BioBlitz
BioBlitz, an annual science festival and competition, is coming to Goodwin College July 12-13. The event brings together scientists from the University of Connecticut and others from across the region in a race to see how many species they can count in a 24-hour biological survey. The public is invited to observe the scientists' activities, to interact with them, and to participate in other activities that are presented as part of the event. Graduation to be Held at River Campus June 11
The graduation ceremony will be held June 11 at 6 p.m. at the River Campus. Students eligible to participate in the ceremony will receive information later this month.
College to Receive Grants, Government FundsGoodwin College is slated to receive federal funds totaling over $1 million for two separate projects, a Clinical Skill Laboratory for Nursing and Respiratory Therapy, and the reconstruction of Riverside Drive. The college has also been awarded a $100,000 grant for the ConnCAP program from the Balfour Foundation, and a $2,500 grant from NewAlliance Bank.
College Hosts Gen. Petraeus
Goodwin College was the host of a speech on foreign policy by Gen. David Petraeus March 13. The event was sponsored by the World Affairs Council, and was covered extensively in the national and international news media. For clips of the speech, click here.
Game Night April 17 The Library and Student Council are joining forces to present a game night on Friday, April 17, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. in the Community Room. There will be games and pizza. This event will be open to faculty, staff, and students. Consider bringing your favorite board game!

Meisha Johnson, a student in NUR 200, will be receiving a scholarship form the VNA HealthCare organization as a part of their Nightingale celebration.
Students attended a presentation about "Project Choice," a Yale study seeking to curb problem drinking. Volunteers are still needed (participants are compensated). If you are interested, please contact Joy Castello Butler at jbutler@goodwin.edu.
Students collected supplies for people in need in Guyana in March, filling five large barrels.

Ellen Kraemer, an adjunct clinical faculty who teaches obstetrics in the Nursing Program, will receive the Nightingale Award April 30.
Ron Lee recently completed the Campus Community Emergency Response Team (C-CERT) Train-the-Trainer Program for American Colleges and Universities at Western Connecticut State University. During this training, participants became familiar with the format, content, key points, objectives and training tips for implementing and conducting CERT training at their own institutions.
Marilyn Nowlan will attend the Connecticut Library Association's 118th Annual Conference, "Menu for Success." Authors Da Chen, Diane Mott Davidson, Rosemary Harris, Stephen Carter and former poet laureate Robert Pinsky are among featured speakers.
Henriette Pranger is presenting a session with colleagues at the Annual New England Transfer Association Conference April 20-22. The session is called Implementing a Prior Learning Portfolio Program: Institutional Perspectives. Nichole Olson will attend the conference as well.
Michael Rotondo will facilitate a scholar hour on the economy open to all faculty, students and staff Thursday, April 23, 2:45 - 3:45 p.m. in Room 511.
David Zoppoli and Joe Cary have volunteered to be part of a committee to plan a Career Day for East Hartford Middle School students. Professionals from various industries will be invited to share career advice and information with the students. To get involved, email dzoppoli@goodwin.edu.
The Health Science Department would like to thank everyone who took part in the Daffodil Days Drive. The drive raised $330.00 for the American Cancer Society.

Goodwin College will participate in National Rebuilding Day April 25. Please join us for this fun and rewarding activity.
The event, formerly known as Christmas in April, brings volunteers from all walks of life together to repair and restore houses of low-income homeowners.
Last year, 40 people volunteered as part of Goodwin College's Rebuilding Together team. No special skills are required, just the desire to help a fellow human being. Your spouse, children and friends are welcome to participate.

Bookstore Offers Buy-back, Sales
The next student book buyback will be during finals week, April 20 - 24, in front of the bookstore from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, through today, April 9, save 20% on selected items and take advantage of new spring savings prices.
Library News The Goodwin Library is participating in several national celebrations and one state event during the month of April. April is National Poetry Month bringing together publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, schools and poets around the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. The library will display poetry books, schedule a poetry book club meeting, and a Poem in Your Pocket Day April 30. National Library Week begins April 12. This is an annual celebration of the contributions of libraries, librarians, and library workers. The theme this year is "Worlds connect @ your library." Donations
Cheryle Sheades, a nursing student, has graciously donated complete sets of National Geographic from 1993 to the present. Gary Wright, IT department, has donated plants for our west sunlit windows. Mark Scheinberg is displaying two antique helmets in the library. The helmet in search of a name is on display by the first floor door.
