Academic Center Quickly a Focal Point for Community Activities College planners have long touted the potential of the riverside campus to become a new community and cultural hub, offering programs of interest to the public as well as students. Since opening in January, the academic center at the River Campus has proven to be just that - a venue that welcomes events and personalities big and small. In February, the college hosted a forum on foreign policy with Congressman John Larson, a jazz concert with The Jocelyn Pleasant Trio, receptions for corporators and alumni, and a lecture on the cultural significance of rap music. Community service and education activities have also been held, including the Feb. 24 student-led blood drive (congrats to the AP-1 class for collecting 57 pints!), and a March 4 seminar on preventing childhood bullying, organized by East Hartford ChildPlan. In March, the college hosted a seminar on bullying, and an annual meeting of MetroHartford Alliance members. Later this month, the River Campus will be the venue for a lecture by U.S. Central Command Commander General David Petraeus. Please stay tuned for email updates on upcoming events, and enjoy the photos below of some of the highlights of the past few weeks... Receptions for Alumni, Corporators In February, back-to-back evening reception honored two important groups, corporators (longtime college supporters and friends) and alumni. At both events, corporators and alumni enjoyed food, drinks, music, and tours of the river campus. The alumni reception, the largest so far at the college, brought together over 25 alumni and over a dozen faculty members and staff. Both receptions were opportunities to honor and celebrate individuals who have helped the college grow through their support, and in the case of alumni, their hard work and personal success. Please see the following photos from the receptions...
