Golf Tournament Raises $43k for Endowment
The Goodwin College Foundation is pleased to announce that this year's golf tournament, held September 24, raised over $43,000 for the endowment. The proceeds from the endowment provide scholarships for Goodwin College students. The foundation extends a heartfelt thanks to this year's tournament sponsors, listed here, as well as the golfers, volunteers, and other supporters who made this event a success.

Flu Shots Offered
Goodwin College will be hosting a flu shot clinic
on Nov. 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 102 of the academic building at
745 Burnside Avenue.
Many insurance plans are accepted. Those wishing to use their insurance
should bring their insurance cards with them to the clinic. The cost of the flu
shot will be $37.00 ($32.00 if paid for immediately at the clinic site). Pneumonia
shots will also be offered for $57.00. Staff and students may obtain a consent

Blood Drive Wednesday
An American Red Cross blood drive will take place in the
student lounge on Wednesday,
October 8, from
8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The anatomy and physiology
class that is coordinating the drive has announced a goal to collect 60 pints.

Student Achievements
The Goodwin
College Foundation's annual golf tournament, held September 24, raised
over $43,000 for the endowment for scholarships. The proceeds from the
endowment made possible three $1,000 scholarships which were awarded to
students Jenny Caroon, Rhonda Lord, and Kelly Parent. The scholarships were awarded based on academic achievement. Congratulations to this
year's scholarship recipients.
Kim Johnson, a student in the Respiratory Care Program, is
the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship offered by the Connecticut Society for
Respiratory Care.

Academy for Service
Excellence and the National Retail Federation are proud to announce that the
following students have passed the NRF Foundation's National Professional
Certification in Customer Service: Shaunda Jones, Jessie Burrell, Robert Rettalick, Beatrice Kettles, Yaisa Limpio, Luz M. Santos, Timothy Stamps, and Ashley Molowku. Also, congratulations to the following students who have passed the academic portion of the
American Hotel and Lodging Association's Educational Institute career
program, and will become industry certified upon completion of their
cooperative work hours at their various hotel and casino job sites: Sherieffa N. Bailey, Shaunda Jones, Yaisa Limpio, Jonathan Mullings, Robbie S. Patterson, Yolanda Quinonez, and Luz M. Santos. Special congratulations to Ashley Molowku, who has recently
accepted a position as a front desk representative with the world-renowned
Aspen Meadows Resort in Colorado.

Employee Notes
Goodwin College welcomes Tyesha Wood to its team of
academic advisors. Wood was a student advisor at Career Beginnings, a
college-access mentoring program that helps Hartford-area youth graduate high
school and pursue higher education.
Heather Kies has been hired as the
director of the Medical Assisting Program. Heather comes to Goodwin
College with over 14
years of experience in the medical field, having served as a medic in the
United States Army, a phlebotomist, a phlebotomy supervisor, and currently as a medical technologist in a local hospital. Heather has taught at Goodwin College since January of 2008, teaching
in the Phlebotomy Certificate Program and Medical Assisting Program.
Nichole
Olson, an academic advisor at Goodwin College, recently attended the National Academic
Advising Association annual conference in Chicago,
IL. The five-day conference
covered topics including transfer and probation policies, interoffice
coordination efforts, and retention programming. Goodwin College's new "walk club" offers
faculty and staff the chance to enjoy a brisk walk with friends on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays at 3:15 p.m. (the group meets in the lobby of the

Attention Students
Official registration for the January 2009 semester will
take place the week of November 10 for Nursing and Paramedic students and the
week of November 17 for all other students. Students should access the
student intranet beginning October 10 for specific details regarding days,
times, locations, etc., and to download a registration information packet that
will include course offerings for January. All students who are planning
to continue their studies at Goodwin in January 2009 need to complete their
registration by 6:00 p.m. on November 25 to avoid the late registration
fee. All students who are receiving financial aid need to have a current
FAFSA on file. Please check with the financial aid office if you are not
sure if your FAFSA is up-to-date.
This year's annual student appreciation picnic is
scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, on the lawns of the Burnside Avenue campus (rain date
10/16/08). The daylong event will include a barbeque, informational
tables from college departments, voter registration, music, and a raffle.

The Vietnam Traveling Wall will be in East
Hartford from October 15-19 at Rentschler Field. Volunteers are
needed to assist visitors and provide other support during the exhibition during
the following times:
October 17, 5:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
October 18, 8:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.
October 19, 8:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.

The East
Hartford Chamber of Commerce, a longtime friend of Goodwin College,
is holding its annual auction on November 21 at Marco Polo Restaurant at 6:30
p.m. The evening will include dinner, music, and a wine and Ten Penny Ale
tasting. Tickets are $30 ($20 for Goodwin College Alumni), and are available by
