College Launches Program to
Recruit
and Retain Men of Color
Funding Provided by the
Hartford
Foundation for Public Giving
August marks the beginning of a new Goodwin College initiative aimed at increasing opportunities for men of color in the Hartford region to pursue higher education. The program, called "Men of
Vision and Education Reaching for Success" (MOVERS), is being funded through a three-year, $300,000 grant by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. MOVERS will admit 15 students
each year to the college with a comprehensive financial aid package that will
allow the students to focus on academics full-time while receiving personalized mentoring and tutoring. The ultimate goal is that every student
enrolled in the program will graduate from Goodwin College
and go on to a four-year institution for further study. For more information on eligibility and to apply, call
Dan Noonan at 860-528-4111.

Thousands Visit Tall Ship at River Campus
Over 2,000 visitors toured the Half Moon during a week of special events at Goodwin College's River Campus in July. The ship's crew and Goodwin staff worked together to welcome visitors during two days of public tours, and provided educational programs for hundred of young people in collaboration with area schools and summer camps. A renovated large-vessel dock at the campus was host to the full-scale replica of explorer Henry Hudson's 1609 ship.
