Congratulations Graduates!

Graduation

To Goodwin's Class of 2008: Congratulations and best wishes from the entire Goodwin community. At the commencement ceremony June 12 at The Bushnell's Belding Theater, graduates heard words of wisdom from education advocate Walter 'Doc' Hurley and author Wally Lamb, each of whom received honorary degrees from the college.

River Campus Hosts Tall Ship Visit
Ship Open to Public this Weekend

Half Moon

The Half Moon, a replica of Henry Hudson's 1609 vessel, is scheduled to dock at Goodwin College's River Campus for a week of educational activities and events beginning Thursday, July 3.

In a voyage sponsored by the college, the ship traveled from Long Island Sound up the Connecticut River with a crew that included 12 Hartford-area middle school students. The students conducted scientific experiments and learned to sail and maintain the ship over the course of the seven-day voyage.

The ship will be open for public tours July 5-6 at the River Campus from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please click here for directions and more information.

Fall Session Registration Begins July 14 for Most Students
Homeland Security Program Seeks Help Supporting Stricken Trooper

The Goodwin College Homeland Security Program is asking that members of the Goodwin community consider attending a benefit picnic for State Police Detective John Sawyer, who is fighting cancer. The event is July 19 in Granby, Connecticut, and tickets are available for a $15 donation. Please email Eric Emet for more information.
Goodwin's Financial Aid Director Heads Professional Group

Bill Mangini, Goodwin's Director of Financial Aid, has assumed the position of President of the Connecticut Association of Professional Financial Aid Administrators (CAPFAA).  CAPFAA consists of sixty Connecticut schools, along with 40 lending institutions, guaranty agencies, and consultants.  Bill was also a prior CAPFAA President in 2003-2004.
Alumni Welcomed to Tour River Campus

The Alumni Relations Office and Facilities Department are coordinating tours of the River Campus and the academic center currently under construction. Please contact Alumni Director Guy LaBella at 860-727-6948 or glabella@goodwin.edu to schedule a visit.
Arts Academy Invites Goodwin Community to Attend Benefit Concert

Cape Verdean singer Maria de Barros will perform July 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Theater of the Performing Arts, on the campus of the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. The concert will benefit an exchange program operated by the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) and the government of Cape Verde. CREC has asked Goodwin to spread the word about this event.

Employee News

Cheryl Mobley joins us from as the new front desk receptionist as Lori Jarvis moves to a position in Admissions. Leia Bell joins the Institutional Advancement team as Associate Director of Development. Goodwin also welcomes Bryan Mitchell to the position of Accounting Officer.
