Multiple Disasters Strike Oklahoma

Tornados, Hail, Heavy Rain and Flooding have overwhelmed most of the city.  On Saturday, May 22nd UWCO, partner agencies and UCAN Disaster Response Team members (David Hatch, Co-Chair, Mildred Davis, Lillian Potters, Retha Stringer and I) collectively held a hail damage assessment site at Crossings on Penn and Hefner.  More than 100 families went through the process.  Assistance replacing windows for their homes and windshields were the greatest need.  Then came the torrential rains and flooding affecting those who were in the process of replacing roofs, windows, windshields, causing more damage.  A heavy rain/flooding assessment site was opened this past Saturday at Life Church and the YMCA on North Penn.  Water, gatorade, tarps, clorox, food, hygiene kits were distributed along with assessment information for assistance.  Thank you Karen Gates (and her 4 family members), David Hatch for covering these sites.  Oklahoma has had six FEMA Disaster Declarations since last December ... OEM, service providers, community volunteers, churches, UWCA, family and friends have done a tremendous job of reaching out to those affected.  If, for some reason, someone has not been contacted or gone to a recovery site, have them call "211" or access the assessment form: unitedwayokc.org.

The House on Thursday approved a six-month plan to prevent a steep cut in doctors' fees paid by Medicare, agreeing to a short-term solution that Speaker Nancy Pelosi called "totally inadequate" but said the House had decided to adopt after concluding that the Senate was hopelessly gridlocked and could do no better.
