United Way Offers Free Tax Filing Assistance
United Way has partnered with the IRS and Oklahoma City University to offer free tax filing assistance to low-income working families earning $41,646 or less in 2008.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Site, or VITA, is open on Saturdays only at 9 a.m. through April 11. We will be closed March 14 and 21 for Spring Break.
OCU Law and Business Students are IRS trained to complete basic tax returns.
Please share this information with your clients who qualify. Clients need to bring the following items with them:
- Photo Identification
- Social Security Cards for everyone on the return
- W-2's for 2008 income
- 2007 tax return if possible
- Day care expenses
- For FAST, electronic refund: Voided check, bank routing number and account information

Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits Training
The Board Development Conference, March 11, is geared toward educating executive directors and their board on governance and tips on how to keep the organization on track in challenging times.
In addition to the above conference, the Center is offering free training on the new 990, on March 25. This is a half-day seminar featuring a nationally recognized CPA and an Audit Manager from the region.

Building Relationships to Create Successful Change
Oklahoma Parents Center, Inc. and the Oklahoma State Department of Education are hosting "Building Relationships to Create Successful Change", March 24 at the Hilton Tulsa Southern Hills.
This day long event will feature nationally recognized speakers Chris Burke, Barry Weinhold and Sarah Helena Vazquez, as well as Oklahoma favorites Misty Kimbrough, JoAnne Blades, Jan Moss and Sharon House.

Central Oklahoma Turning Point and the Oklahoma State Department of Health are hosting this all-day seminar March 12, at United Way of Central Oklahoma's offices located at 1444 NW 28th Street.
Sally Bouse-Pittser, Linsey Garlington, Shante Fenner, Kathy Payne and Teresa Ryan will train-the-trainer by discussing topics including Talking with Your Kids about Sex, Internet Safety and HIV/STD's.

Problem gambling is gambling to the extent that it causes emotional, family, legal, financial or other problems for the gambler and the people around them.
A Chance to Change, a United Way Partner Agency, offers treatment programs for problem gambling, the only program of it's kind in central Oklahoma.
