Come to KWG Holiday Potluck!
|
KWG News
Join KWG Holiday Party with Bill Landry
Celebrate the season with us at the KWG holiday potluck and meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Laurel Theatre! What an event it will be! We'll enjoy a program by TV commentator and author Bill Landry, good holiday food, and fellowship with other writers. Besides that, you can purchase "A Tapestry of Voices," the 2011 KWG Literary Anthology, which is hot off the presses. Come early at 6:30 p.m. and have coffee and Christmas treats with us. Keep reading for details.
Landry, longtime host of WBIR-TV's "Heartland Series," will talk about his new book, "Appalachian Tales & Heartland Adventures." It is a 187-page coffee table book published by Celtic Cat Publishing (softbound, $25; hardbound, $45). The book tells the stories behind the stories of the popular Knoxville television series, which ran from 1984 to 2009. Landry will sign copies of the book, which will be available for purchase.
The famous KWG holiday potluck has a place for you! Bring the food of your choice -- sweets, savories, deli item or food that Santa would enjoy. The festivities begin at 6:30 before the 7 p.m. meeting, and continue for a social hour after the meeting ends. Tablecloth, cups, utensils and napkins all are provided. All we need is you! The Laurel Theater is located at the corner of Laurel Avenue and 16th Street. A $2 donation is suggested for those attending. For more information, visit www.knoxvillewritersguild.org.
KWG and CWG Exchange Notes
On Saturday, Nov. 19, five KWG Executive Committee members met for lunch with six members of the Chattanooga Writers' Guild for an annual exchange of ideas. Over chicken, salads and other noontime treats at the Athens Ruby Tuesday, the spokesmen cited things they thought the guilds were doing right and what needed improvement.
High marks went to formation of good writers' groups, acquisition of high quality monthly speakers, and creation of good workshops and events. Both groups said they needed to do a better job of drawing in a more diverse membership (diverse by race, age and writing interest). Both groups said they need to improve their spreading the workload to include more people and planning for the future.
What do you think needs improvement? Pitch in and get involved! You'll be glad you did.
