Mail in or upload online up to twenty-five pages of fiction or up to three poems (up to 10 pages total of poetry). Reading fee per manuscript includes a one-year/two-issue print and e-book subscription to Crazyhorse starting with the next issue.

Richard Bausch Short Fiction Contest

We're going to give you an MFA quality review for your story.

The Night
Creative Nonfiction and The Salt Institute are seeking essays about "The Night": It was a dark and stormy night; Strangers in the Night; the night sky, etc. Essays must be vivid and dramatic; they should combine a strong and compelling narrative with a significant element of research or information, and reach for some universal or deeper meaning in personal experiences. We're looking for well-written prose, rich with detail and a distinctive voice.
Prize: $5,000/2,500+pub

Very Short Fiction Award
For stories of up to 3,000 words. The category will be open to submissions for one full month, form the first day through midnight (Pacific time) of the last day of the month. When we accept a story for publication, we are purchasing first-publication rights.

The Iowa Review Awards
The Iowa Review holds a yearly writing contest in Poetry, Fiction, and Nonfiction. Submit up to 25 pages of prose (double-spaced) or 10 pages of poetry (one poem or several, but no more than one poem per page). Work must be previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are fine assuming you inform us of acceptance elsewhere.
