Greetings! | Summer is here, and this week we open our doors to the 2011 class of young artists. They come to us from 36 states and 18 countries with one common purpose - to share the summer immersed in music making surrounded by like-minded peers and the world's great living artists.
Our Ozawa Hall schedule is available for you online. Details about the activities of the 2011 season will be broadcast on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. Follow us, share your memories and thoughts with us, and most importantly, join us to experience the transformative power of Tanglewood through the performances of gifted young artists.

Special Performances and More Private Lessons in 2011!
| This summer, Boston Symphony Orchestra principal players Robert Sheena and Steven Ansell will perform with BUTI ensembles in Ozawa Hall. Sheena (English horn, pictured left) will perform Epstein's Bloom for English horn and wind ensemble on July 15th at 8 pm with David Martins, conductor. Ansell (viola, pictured below) will perform Walton's Viola Concerto on August 13th at 2:30 pm unde r maestro David Hoose. Private Lessons for the YAWE
Beginning in 2011, BUTI will provide two private lessons per student to the curriculum of the Young Artists Wind Ensemble. This will ensure that all BUTI students enrolled in the Young Artists programs will receive training in the three principal areas of study for classical musicians - solo and chamber music, and large ensemble.

Surdna Foundation Challenge UPDATE
|
Last fall, BUTI received a $240,000 grant from the Surdna Foundation - $80,000 a year for three years - in support of scholarships for minority students who enroll in BUTI's Young Artists Programs. This funding is a challenge grant which pledges BUTI to raise $60,000 per year (75% of Surdna's grant) in new and increased gifts. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends like you, and a new grant from an anonymous foundation, BUTI has SURPASSED its 2011 goal by $35,000, AND has raised $50,000 towards NEXT year's target! The Impact: - $420,000 awarded in scholarships for summer 2011
- 130 Young Artists on scholarship, including 10 receiving full tuition awards
- 38% of the 2011 class attending BUTI on scholarship
The Future:We are still a long way from reaching our goal of providing scholarship to every admitted student who demonstrates need. As the demand for scholarship continues to grow so too does the need for your continued support.
