1981 |
David Bernard (YAO '80, '81) founded the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony in 1999 and continues to lead them today as Music Director. Visit their website for information about 2009-2010 season performances. |
1983 |
 Engraver Tira (Maloney) Mitchell (Flute Workshop '83) was featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer in August of this year. The article discusses her journey from aspiring flutist, to business major at Boston University, to engraver of growing renown. Mitchell is married and the mother of two children and works from her home studio in Doylestown, PA.

1995 |
Acclaimed stage, television, and film actress Lauren Ambrose (YAVP '94, '95) stars as the voice of KW in the movie, "Where the Wild Things Are", directed by Spike Jonze and presented by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film opens nationwide this month. |
1996 |
 Pianist Kirill Gerstein (YAPP '95, '96) performed in the final concert of the Philadelphia Orchestra's season on August 22nd. Upcoming performances include appearances with the Detroit Symphony and baritone Thomas Hampson. Visit www.kirillgerstein.com for more information. |
1998 |
Actor/singer Deborah Grausman (YAVP '98) is performing the role of Chava in the national Farewell Tour of Fiddler on the Roof to rave reviews. The tour opened in August and will close in June of 2010. Please visit the tour website for ticket and venue information. |
1999 |
 Trombonist Amanda Stewart (Trombone Workshop, YAO '99) joined the New York Philharmonic as Associate Principal Trombone in September of 2009. Before joining the New York Philharmonic, Ms. Stewart performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, and the North Carolina Symphony. She was the principal trombonist of the San Antonio Symphony (2004-2009) and assistant principal trombonist of the Lyric Opera of San Antonio (2005-2009). |
2007 |
Composer Stephen Feigenbaum (YACP '05, '06, '07) was recently comissioned by Boston Symphony Orchestra violist and Terezin Chamber Music Foundation (TCMF) founder Mark Ludwig to compose a choral work. The piece, entitled "Songs of Sorrow and Hope", has already received accolades in Prague, Czech Republic, and in Vancouver, BC Canada where it was a finalist in the Vancouver Chamber Choir's 9th Biennial Young Composer's Competition. The New England Conservatory Youth Chorale will give the Boston premier of the piece at the TCMF Gala at at the Higginson Ballroom, Symphony Hall, Boston on November 1st.
 Trombonist Courtney Sander (YAO '06, '07) and French horn player Daniel Doyle (YAWE '05, '06, '07) are engaged to be married after their graduation from Boston University where they are both music majors. They are spending the fall 2009 semester studying at the Royal College of Music in London as part of a semester-abroad program offered at the BU School of Music. Courtney and Daniel met at BUTI in 2006. |
2008 |
 Scott AuCoin (YACP '08) was featured in a recent Baltimore Sun Article highlighting four students from the Baltimore School for the Arts. Scott's first commission, a five-minute concerto for orchestra entiteld "Light the Path", will be performed in December by the Howard County Reservoir High School Symphony. "Light the Path" was inspired by Scott's experiences at BUTI.
 Cellist Julian Langford (YAO '08) appeared on the Emmy Award winning radio program From the Top this fall. Julian performed as part of a piano quintet from the Heifetz Institute of Music. |
2009 |
 Percussionist Ted Babcock (Percussion Workshop, YAO '09), double bassist Xavier Foley (YAO '09), and baritone Sean Plumb (YAVP '09) are all performing this fall on the Emmy Award winning radio program, From the Top.

BUTI Faculty Updates |
YAHS director and world renowned harpist Ann Hobson Pilot, who recently retired from the Boston Symphony Orchestra after a distinguished career of 40 years, was featured in the opening night performance of the BSO's 2009-2010 season on September 23rd. She performed the harp concerto "On Willows and Birches", a new work written for her by Maestro John Williams. BUTI mourns the loss of legendary artist/teacher and frequent Tanglewood Institute master class guest Louis Rosenblatt (English horn) who passed away in August of this year. Mr. Rosenblatt retired from the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1995 after 36 years with the ensemble. He also was a faculty member at Temple University for nearly five decades. |
