MUSINGS FROM MIKKI
                    Mikki with Afro
Yowsa, October was insane! I said "yes" to way too many engagements but oh, what great fun and great people along the way. I had gigs at The Four Seasons in Phoenix (I don't accept speeches at Motel 6!), a return engagement at Sertoma Centre in ChicagoLinda Renardo (Linda Renardo at left) then to NY to celebrate THE son's birthday. Oh yes, the afro picture of me was for his 70s-themed party. (I actually had one of those back in the 70s. No, not the wig, the actual hairstyle...scary!) Jason's b'day  Jason is a singer so for his big birthday I bought him two tickets to the 2011 Grammys with air and hotel at an auction.

From NY I took my favorite mode of transportation, Amtrak  Smiley Face, to D.C. then to New Jersey then my Vistage KEY retreat at Lake Lawn Resort (below) in Delavan, WI. We had an awesome time dining, laughing, bonding, mini-golfing... and a great speaker, Jean Maxwell. Key Retreat

No rest for the weary. From there I flew to Rhode Island to speak for Disaster Recovery Assn. and have dinner with good friend Kurt Harrington. The perks of this blessed career is being able to connect with friends all over the globe.
On to Austin and Vito Fabiano's Vistage group (below), Vito Fabiano's groupthen home in time for my own group. And it didn't end there. Whew! I left from my group back to California to incredible Ventana Inn in Big Sur. OMG, first time there, Jennifer and Jasonabsolutely breathtaking and oh so romantic! Here I am with new friends, Jason and Jennifer Smith of Paraiso Vineyards (left).

Ended the month with my Design Your Own Shoe party (read about it in the Shoe-Be-Doo section).
Just got back from the Vistage conference in Kawasakigorgeous San Diego. Here I am  with keynote speaker/author, Guy Kawasaki (right) and below with with Mike Milken, Financier/Philantropist (left), and Rafael Pastor, Chairman/CEO of Vistage (right)Milkin and Pastor

No Florida in October which makes Mikki a very sad girl.  :-(

I wish you all an amazing Thanksgiving and I am so thankful for my family and friends and all those of you whose lives you've allowed me to touch through speaking and Vistage.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

The Orange RevolutionThe Orange Revolution

How One Great Team Can Transform An Organization

By Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton

This is not just a book about ground-breaking teams, this is a great collection of examples garnered from detailed research into the startling statistic that only 20% of teams are working to capacity. Told through stories (I'm a sucker for stories) profiling exemplary companies, they share the characteristics lacking in most teams today. As someone who leads teams (my Vistage groups) I am always eager to garner any new perspectives on how I can be a better leader by inspiring greater teamwork. I believe whether you are a leader of a team in corporate or of a board or even a family, all of their steps are relevant. By fostering these
steps, you formulate better teams. Their studies back up this data.

  • Stronger clarity of goals
  • Greater trust among team members
  • More open and honest dialogue
  • Stronger accountability for all team members
  • Purpose based recognition of all team members' contributions

Mikki & Friends
Mikki will be teaming up with some of her fabulous friends and peers to create unique training days.

THE NEXT TELESEMINAR will be NOVEMBER 24, 2010 at Noon CST

Dan Barnett

Conversation with Mikki and Dan Barnett
THE CORE OF EXECUTION

Poor execution will eat good strategy for lunch every day. Ever had your lunch eaten by poor execution? If so, you are not alone. Most leaders struggle to get extraordinary execution in their organizations. Dan grew up a skinny kid in a rough and tumble farming community so had plenty of his lunches eaten by others. His passion today is making sure poor execution does not eat YOUR lunch. Dan speaks from 25 years of running companies - divisions of Pillsbury, Weyerhaeuser, Nestle, Constellation Brands and several smaller private companies.

You will learn.....
1. A powerful new approach to Vision
2. How to identify what matters most - your Make or Break
3. Forward facing metrics - stop looking backwards
4. Rapid Action Teams - expect constant innovation

NO COST - NO OBLIGATION

BIZ BYTES
THE AFRICAN QUEEN

As seen in a trade publication for the speaking industry...Sharing Ideas

What do you call someone who speaks 11 languages? South African! What do you call someone who speaks three languages? European! What do you call someone who speaks one language? American! My audience roared! Actually that was a variation of a joke shared with me by my good friend, consulting client and President of NSA Metro New York Chapter, Diane DiResta. Foreigners greatly appreciate self-effacing humor especially when it relates to Americans lack of language versatility.

Knowing I was faced with a seventeen hour flight,I finally got smart and did something that I recommend to all international speakers. With best friend, Kathy along ( you've seen her picture with me on other international trips in Israel and Australia) we flew to London and took a day rate at my favorite hotel at Heathrow Airport, The Edwardian. We checked in and immediately signed up for a massage, sauna and other relaxing treatments at the hotel spa. First,a workout, then massage then an afternoon nap. We awoke refreshed in the late afternoon, had a leisurely dinner and boarded our flight to South Africa at 8 p.m.

CREATIVE CAPTIONS
I love creativity and as a wordsmith I love double entendres, alliteration, onomato... whatever the heck that one was. One of my quirky habits is collecting names of businesses that display any of the above. Here are two of my favorites:

      It's Pawsible  (dog-walking service)

    Rack and Roll  (billiards hall)

SHOE-BE-DOO STORIES
Yes, I own about a billion pairs of shoes. And each pair has a story to inspire, a lesson to be learned, a laugh or an "aha!"
Shoe party

I had the party to end all parties so rather than just story-ize (I obviously just made that word up) one of my shoes, let me share the party info with you.

Besides my annual Shoe-per-Bowl party in February, I had a Design-Your-Own-Shoes party with 30 fabulous women. Check out Atelier Shoes ato design YOUR OWN shoes and use the code word MIKKI.

WONDERFUL WEBSITEings
I come across so many and so many are shared with me that I thought I'd share with you.

What a great time of year to have the opportunity to send a free printed postcard to US military personnel stationed overseas showing your support and appreciation for their service to our country.

Hey, I'm the July 4th birthday gal! Also quite the patriot and have a dear friend and mentee, 2 Star Major General (ret) Vinny Boles (my guest on last month's teleseminar and a phenomenal speaker).

QUOTATIONS I WISH I'D SAID AND SOME I DID SAY!
Mikki Mouth Enjoy a quote each month from my new book - some funny, some poignant, some professional, some just darn cute!

"I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land."

TITILLATING TRIVIA

It is impossible to lick your elbow

(Ha, and I know you're all trying as you read this!)

HE WHO LAUGHS...LASTS!
Laughing baby

The pro football team had just finished their daily practice session when a large turkey came strutting onto the field. While the players gazed in amazement, the turkey walked up to the head coach and demanded a tryout. Everyone stared in silence as thTurkey playing footballe turkey caught pass after pass and ran right through the defensive line. When the turkey returned to the sidelines, the coach shouted,  "You're terrific!!! Sign up for the season and I'll see to it that you get a huge bonus."

"Forget the bonus," the turkey said, "All I want to know is, does the season go past Thanksgiving Day?"

SOCIAL MEDIA GURU GUY
Dave NelsenDave Nelsen
Entrepreneur and Social Media Guide
Dave's formal title is President, Dialog Consulting Group
From 2005 to 2009 he was CEO of TalkShoe, a social media company now serving more than one million monthly listeners...and the fabulous company I use to produce my monthly teleseminars.

Have you ever thought about building your own social network tailored to your specific purpose? It could be a far more effective means of communicating, significantly reducing email, newsletters, phone calls and missed opportunities. Cost and complexity are no longer blocking factors: You can set up an open or closed Ning Network in about 30 minutes at a cost of just $2.95 per month.

Imagine having a fully customized Facebook-like service for connecting with your key customers and prospects... with your employees (closed membership; tight security)... with your partners and suppliers. Ning features include membership, blogs, forums, photos, videos, documents, groups, discussions, and much, much more. And it's 100% under your control, unlike most other forms of social networking.

In addition to its enhanced communications benefits, a Ning group can become a knowledge repository where documents, spreadsheets, and presentations are permanently accessible.

If you have a distributed team, and this sounds like an upgrade to your current communications methods, checkout www.ning.com.

FUN, FABULOUS, FEARLESS FRIENDS
If any of you remember the movie or Broadway show "Auntie Mame" or if you're old enough to admit you remember it, then you might recall that Mame was famous for her eclectic circle of friends. I pride myself on that same principle of knowing so many diverse people and calling many of them my friends.
