I NEED YOUR HELP, PLEEEEEASE!!
All
my life has been leading up to this moment, this opportunity. My biggest
goal,
always, my BHAG (big, hairy, audacious goal) was to have my own national talk show. Oprah and reality TV
super
producer Mark Burnett are searching for the next big TV star. They ask,
"Do you have a big personality and a big dream for yourself?" Well,
if that doesn't describe me I don't know what does! They are looking for
ME! So take a look at my audition tape and please, please, please
vote for me
today...and tomorrow...and the next day, 50 times a day, until voting ends on July 3rd, the day before my birthday! Consider it a birthday present! And feel
free to
send this to your entire contact list, to friends, neighbors, countrymen
(and
women)...tell the bag boy at the grocery store, your mail carrier, the cab
driver...tell everyone to vote for me! Help my dream come true. I
promise it
will be an "outrageous" show.

June is for weddings, love,
graduations, celebrations, and...only a month before my birthday! Woo
hoo! Oh, where do I begin? What a fab month! Just got back from my Vistage Chair
retreat (no, not a furniture company), all of us who "herd cats" for
a living, i.e. facilitate CEO advisory boards. There're about 30 of us but this
is the group that attended...learning and playing together at the French
Country Inn in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Thanks to Facebook I reconnected with my college beau, Jimmy Jondreau (love the
rhyming). He was in town for the national restaurant show. He's the former chef
for Kelsey Grammar, founder of Food and Wine Magazine and foodie
extraordinaire. Was amazing to see him again after all these years!
Had a great night out Latin Dancing, my fav, at Rumba with some of my Vistage
members (left to right: Gretchen Hartke, Michelle Ernsdorf, and my old not in age in tenure friend Michele Goldsmith, sales queen of the boating industry.
Said "temporary" goodbye to my Vistage Member of the Year, Craig Fichtelberg. He's embarking on a
new journey for his MBA at UIC. We'll all miss him and
wish him great success on this new chapter. Keeping your seat warm, Craig! Oh yes, I did work this month too.

Pictured with Marty Roark, Vistage Chair from Pennsylvania. I returned to his
group to do "You've Got Personality" for his spousal retreat at beautiful
Nemacolin Woods Resort.
Then to Kansas City to a member's home with
Deb Niewald's group. Ironically, the hotel I stayed at had a restaurant
called...Bronx (where I was born)!
Then, the pice de rsistance ...last Thursday, the 11th, the day after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, I had dinner with them at Tavern on Rush! Read all about it!

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

Drive The Surprising Truth About What
Motivates Us Daniel
Pink I loved Daniel Pink's
first book, A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule The World (May ezine
2008, see my archives) so I couldn't wait to read this one. As a "motivation
junkie" for my own life and also my career, I was anxious to absorb all he had
to offer...and offer he did. He describes true motivation as autonomy, mastery
and purpose and then gives us a road map (get it? Drive? road map?, lol) to
make it all actionable. He uses examples from entrepreneurs to scientists as he
gives you creative examples to drive (oooh, did it again!) your success. He explains that
the first drive is biological, the most basic, i.e. food, shelter, the second
is external as in reward and punishment and lastly is the pure joy of
performing a task. It's in his
exploration of that third drive where people and organizations really soar. So for those of you
whose extent of motivation exploration is centered on how to get your kid to
clean his/her room or your spouse to take out the garbage, I strongly urge you to "drive"
(I couldn't resist) immediately to get
your copy. Happy Reading!

Remember that Lloyd
Price song, You've Got Personality? Well, you all have one; in fact you have a
style uniquely your own, formed by your own self perception, how you think
others see you and by your genetics and life experiences. Helping people
discover their personality style using the Personal Profile System, commonly
known as DiSC, is one of my favorite tools. By helping people discover that they
behave differently in different environments they can recognize and understand
this in others. This helps in sales, customer service, leadership, teamwork and
relationships to foster understanding in dealing with other people. The actual
profiles are self-scoring so
people can use them on their own but then, of course, they wouldn't benefit
from my stylized, informative, humorous presentations.
Who do you think you
are? At home? At work?
D- Demanding,
impatient, decisive, risk, ego, control, competitive.
I- Influencing,
emotional, trusting, generous, people, sensitive
S- Steady, family
oriented, friendly, loyal, patient
C- Critical,
competent, conservative, conscientious, cautious
You just thought of
others too, didn't you? Your spouse, your boss, your kids...?"You WOWED our members at Nexstar's Super Meeting in Atlanta! Everyone enjoyed your great sense of humor and how you were able to connect specifically to them during your presentation. You could have heard a pin drop in the room while you were speaking, as everyone was captivated."Sandie JacobsonNexstar Network

CREATIVE CAPTIONS
|
I love creativity and as a wordsmith I love double entendres, alliteration, onomato... whatever the heck that one was. One of my quirky habits is collecting names of businesses that display any of the above. Here are two of my favorites:
A Sweetbar Named Desire (Dessert Caf)submitted by Ken Alan. Thank you, Ken!
And this one, submitted by my buddy and "sole"
sister and fellow Chair in Colorado, Janet Fogarty, for this double-whammy of a
creative caption AND feeding my other passion of shoes.www.solefoodshoes.com***********************************************************I hope you'll continue to send me ones you know of. Please send to mikki@mikkiwilliams.com |
SHOE-BE-DOO STORIES
|
Yes, I own about a billion pairs of shoes. And each pair has a story to inspire, a lesson to be learned, a laugh or an "aha!"
There are some Vistage groups that I speak for over and
over again and thankfully Don Riddell in California is one of those wonderful Chairs
who, along with his lovely wife Sharon, I can now call friends. Dana
Borowka has attended all of my presentations and by his own admittance is a
self proclaimed "Mikki-junkie." I just did a webinar for his company, Lighthouse Consulting . I digress! Anyway...they know I love gourmet dining so they had told me
about a unique dining experience called Table One, in the kitchen of the Hotel
Bel Air. So with some other
friends and another one of my favorite Chairs/friend, Larry Cassidy, I got to
wear these oh-so-fabulous shoes to the ever-chi chi hotel. It was an amazing (and costly)
experience but hey, I'm all about experiences!

FUN, FABULOUS, FEARLESS FRIENDS
|
If any of you remember the movie or Broadway show
"Auntie Mame" or if you're old enough to admit you remember it, then
you might recall that Mame was famous for her eclectic circle of friends. I
pride myself on that same principle of knowing so many diverse people and
calling many of them my friends. INTRODUCING...this month's
teleseminar guest, Brian
Beaulieu
Brian and I met years ago when
I brought him in to speak to my Vistage groups. He's coming back for the third time on June 16 and 17th, so
let me know quick if you'd like to be my guest, or join us for the teleseminar
(info above) You simply do not want to miss hearing him! We got to be friends as we
kept winding up sharing the same platforms at various conferences around the
country, the last one in the Cayman Islands. I used to tease him that I always followed him on the programs because he
gave everyone the bad news and I had to come on and cheer them all
up. One of the country's most
informed economists, Brian Beaulieu has been an economist with the Institute for
Trend Research since 1982, serving as a principal and its CEO since 1987. At the Institute, his focus is research into
using business cycle analysis and forecasts to increase business
profits He is co-author of Make Your Move, a great book on how to increase profits through business cycle changes. Brian is a principal and
Managing Partner of ITR Capital Partners and is an active member of its
Investment Committee. He's also the Chief Economist for Vistage
International, a global organization of CEOs comprising over 14,000
members. Brian
has been providing workshops and economic analysis seminars across the US to
literally thousands of business owners and executives for the last 28 years.
During that period he has also been consulting
with companies who need a domestic and global perspective on how to forecast,
plan, and increase their profits based on business cycle trend
analysis. His views have appeared in/on: the Wall Street Journal, New York
Times, Barron's, USA Today, CNBC TV, FOX Business TV, Knight Ridder News
Services, Reuters, CBS Radio, The Washington Times,
Forbes,
Atlanta Journal Constitution,
KERA TV, Canadian TV,
and numerous other outlets. He is a
regular columnist and contributing economist to national trade associations and
publications.

INSPIRATIONS
|
As the wordsmith that I have always been, from my high school honors in English (and French) to my calling as a professional speaker, each of the "inspirations" that I share every month are from years and years of collecting words that have inspired me. Over the years I've been inspired by a few marriages, so much so that I tell everyone about these couples every chance I get. I asked my favorite married folk to share with you the secret of marital bliss and longevity. Now I get the chance to share it with you...in their own words.
Linda and Jean Pierre
Marques Who
knew a Frenchman born in North Africa would meet and marry an
American-Armenian from Los Angeles and be celebrating their 25 years
together (and 20 married years)? It has been a deep love and friendship,
and each year it gets stronger and stronger. The amazing thing is that,
even today, people still ask us if we are on our honeymoon. We feel the biggest factors in a long, happy marriage
besides a deep, true love, is unconditional love, respect, compromise
and communication with your partner. Click here to read what they say about each other. You'll love their heartwarming and funny stories.

Susan and Rick Roman
Rick
and I had our 29th wedding anniversary on May 22nd. In those 29 years
we have had 2 children (Angela, 27 and Dominic, 22), lost three out of
four of our parents (my Mom died before Rick and I met), moved only
twice (which may be why we are still married), and have run The
Signature Room at the 95th for 17 of those years! At the altar, one of the three
priests that witnessed our nuptials (you can never have too many of
those, you know) asked us who will be the boss? Rick and I looked at
each other like a couple of deer in the headlights and I blurted out,
"He wears the pants in the family, I just tell him which ones." Read the rest of their story
