MUSINGS FROM MIKKI
Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you have someone special to celebrate the day with, whether it's a love interest, a parent, a child or special friends. Whatever your situation I hope you are happy and surrounded with people you love. February is a busy month for me, full of travel, both business and pleasure; warm, wonderful places like Naples, Florida, Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, Santa Fe...I couldn't have planned it better to escape one of Chicago's worst winters in recent memory.
In Vegas I'll see one of my idols, and someone people say I resemble, in both physicality and outrageousness...BETTE MIDLER! I'll be there front and center on opening night. I'm so excited!

I LOVE THIS BOOK! |
The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich. Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan. There's no need to wait and every reason not to. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing high-end world travel, earning a monthly five figure income with zero management, or just living more and working less, this book is the blueprint.
I LOVE THIS BOOK because it's edgy, it's new thinking and perhaps because Ferriss echoes something I've been saying in my Whole Life Trilogy keynotes: there's no such thing as time management, only priority management (oh, I just love to quote myself!). Or, as Ferriss states, "Lack of time is actually lack of priorities." Do you know about dreamlining? It's a term he uses to apply timelines to what most would consider dreams. Whether you are an overworked employee, a stressed-out CEO or an entrepreneur there is much to be learned here. Step out of your proverbial reading box and pick up this book. |

CREATIVE CAPTIONS |
I love creativity and, as a wordsmith, I love douple entendres, alliteration, onomato... whatever the heck that one was. One of my quirky habits is collecting names of businesses that display any of the above. Here are two of my favorites:
Thai One On (and yes, it's a Thai restaurant)
and
Brick Shirt House
Hey! I didn't make these up! |
SHOE-BE-DOO STORIES |
Yes, I own about a billion pairs of shoes. And each pair has a story to inspire, a lesson to be learned, a laugh or an "ah hah!"
This month's shoes were worn on New Year's Eve 2007 at The Belly Up Tavern in San Diego (Solana Beach). I listened to alternative music when I wanted to be dancing to big band.
Lesson learned: Sometimes you have to compromise. You can't ALWAYS get what you want...even tho I try! |
MIKKI MOUTH: QUOTATIONS I WISH I'D SAID AND SOME I DID SAY! |
Enjoy a quote each month from my new book - some funny, some poignant, some business, some just darn cute!
QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
My ultimate goal is when the check to the undertaker...bounces.

VISTAGE VIGNETTE |
As a speaker resource for Vistage International for 15 years and Chair of two groups for six years I have the opportunity to interact with some of the most dynamic business leaders. Vistage is the world's largest executive organization with 14,000 members worldwide. It is to my delight to profile one of them each month.

CLIENT CHARISMA |
Dave Dastur, Principal of Jensen and Halstead, www.jensenandhalstead.com, Chicago's oldest architectural firm, hired me this month to do my half-day customer service program (which we also filmed for future release...stay tuned). J&H specializes in healthcare and senior living facilities, and they are constantly on the cutting edge of providing their employees with training internally as well as outside opportunities.
When was the last time you measured the "moments of truth" within your organization? A "moment of truth" is any time your customers/clients come in contact with some aspect of your business and use that opportunity to judge the quality of service that business provides.
What have you done for your employees lately to develop their skills both personally and professionally in areas outside their expertise? |
