Message from the President

Dear (Contact First Name),

On January 28th we received support from the CRA for our building recertification process with a Motion directing the Executive Director to identify $1.8 million for immediate funding and to have a resolution for a vote approving the grant request on the next agenda.

This infusion will allow us to commence our recertification process so that we can bring the building up to code, allowing us to utilize the building to sustain ourselves and to raise money for the balance of the restoration. This grant will act as leverage for matching grant funds.

The CRA knows that we are seeking full funding of $3.75 million recertification cost from them and they addressed that support level in their discussion.  We, the members of the Miami Woman's Club, will raise the remaining funds necessary for our restoration.

To hear the commissioners reaffirm their commitment to historical preservation and to protecting our jewel was heartening and encouraging as we embark on our historical and green restoration project.

We have worked long and hard and must continue this commitment.  Let us, however, stop for a brief moment to reflect on the past year; take a deep breath and be proud of what we have accomplished.  Then we can go about the business of achieving the rest of our goals.

Over the past year, the Board has been spending time and resources seeking the necessary support to commence our repairs prior to the general restoration.  In addition, we have been revitalizing our mission and actively pursuing charitable outreach.  Our membership meetings are designed to impart information and awareness about different topics and issues; however, we are also an organization based on community and civil service.  Each member has the responsibility to join a committee and become part of our overall outreach.  At the luncheon, please check the sign-in table for information on each of the committees and the various organizations that the Miami Woman's Club supports.

Critical to our success is the involvement and active participation of our membership.  Please see one of the Board members at the next meeting to identify your particular service area of interest.

Individually we care; together we can make a difference.

Thank you all and let's keep moving forward.

                                                       Noreen Timoney
