April 2009
Dear Friends,

Everything is connected.  Everything is dancing.  This week I was reminded of how fluid life can be -- how much like beautiful choreography we find ourselves in, fluid, flowing, one thing moving into the the next, without thought, without interruption.

Early last week, I agreed to work as a consultant for a new wellness center to open in the fall.  The woman I'll be working for reminded me of the Chinmaya Mission, a center for Vedantic studies in Cranbury, NJ -- a place that we'd want to contact in our efforts to find interesting presenters for the new facility.

On Friday, dressed in jeans and a comfy sweater, driving in the car, my son Gabriel was excitedly telling me about the show "Storm Chasers," which he was watching in science.  After I dropped him off at a friend's house, turning toward home, I saw a full rainbow over Cranbury.  I decided to run home, grab my camera, and become a "rainbow chaser"! I saw it as a good omen, in this time of fluctuation and change for many of the people in my life.

I followed an inner prompting to go to Cranbury-Neck road, knowing there are wide field scapes there -- good for photographing a full rainbow.  Instead, when I got to Cranbury, I found the rainbow gone. I was a little perplexed, but decided that since I was on the road that the Chinmaya Mission was on, I would see this as a prompting to stop by.  I got there just in time to meet Swami Shantananda before he retired to his quarters.

I had no plans to meet a holy man that day.  Or to hear, from one of his devotees, how his life was transformed through studying with the swami, whom he considers his guru. But it was a blessed turn of events.  I didn't care about the rainbow at all!  Instead of a photograph, I found a swami -- a being whom one could call a rainbow in disguise -- and one I would not have to chase down but would find in Cranbury at any time! And what a great omen to start my work for a wellness center:  a rainbow chase and a guru, all inspired by a simple conversation in a car about school.

In moments like these, it's obvious to me that we're not the ones dreaming up our reality but are dancers in a larger choreography.  Oh, to stay in that awareness 24/7! If anything, these moments remind me to follow those inner promptings, because they are, indeed, the promptings of a Master Choreographer!

With blessings of the fluidity of life, & the bounty of spring's offerings,
Cynthia

Let me be danced by you...

While offering a sound healing recently, images of a fluid and symbiotic relationship with life and the Divine emerged and danced in my awareness.  This writing came as a way to put language to the images, both for the person I was offering the healing to, and for you.

Let me be danced by you.

Write your Name on every cell of my being,
And let me dance with you.

Let this dance be as a scribe's
Movement of pen on parchment.
Let my being become a sacred scroll like this.

Alone, I am only a mass of fibers,
A form without life or meaning.
Dance me into life, Eloah,
Let my body feel the lightness of your Name;
Let my movements write your sacred
Presence in me, so that I can never forget.

Dance me, oh Life!
Teach me how to follow your movement.
I am only a frail house of fibers, and you
Are the Holy Essence.  Teach me how to follow
So that when my feet move, I see only your feet,
And when my hands move, I see only yours.

Teach me how to surrender into your arms;
I want to be your holy dance; I want to be
Danced by you, today, now, right now.

....

*Eloah is a Hebraic name for God.

HOLY BREATH

Call on Ya, the Holy Essence, with every fiber of your being.
Call on that which holds your heart in a vice grip,
asking you to turn toward -- to breathe -- to be --
not only in the hour you feel this holiness
but in every hour, in every minute, in every moment.

There is no time in your human encounter with earth
in which your breath is not synchronized with
the Holy Breath of life.  There is no moment
that is absent of holiness.  Look around you, and see
if you can find a hole in the fabric of Ya.

It is only a matter of turning toward -- breathing--
and resting all of your being in the awareness of
how holy you have become.

The grass is only green because the Beloved has made it so.
You only breathe because the Beloved wills it so.
Every moment belongs to the Holy Essence.
Call on Ya, and breathe the Holy Breath.  Do not wait.
Do not wait.

...

Breathing meditation:
Note:  Ya is an ancient Hebraic name for God (Yahweh).  You can replace with this name with what name/form you prefer to meditate on.

Breathing meditation:  As you breathe in, say in your mind:  Breathing in I breathe the Holy breath. As you breathe out, say in your mind:  Breathing out, I am one with Ya.  As you breathe in, say:  Breathing in I breathe the Holy breath.  As you breathe out, say:  Breathing out, I am filled with peace.

Eventually you can drop the "Breathing in I ..." and just simply repeat, as you breathe:
I breathe the Holy breath
I am one with Ya
I breathe the Holy breath
I am filled with peace.
