DuSable Museum's 37th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival f/ Kindred the Family Soul
This year the Festival "Goes Back To Our Roots," featuring original works of art and crafts taking center stage. The Festival returns to being a showcase for local artists, a juried exhibition of fine art and unique crafted work which features artists working in traditional, ethnic and experimental fine arts and crafts that relate to African American themes, identity, history and culture and underscores the Museum's mission of preserving the history and culture of the African American experience. The Festival also returns to its customary date of occurring the second weekend in July and to the practice of showcasing original works of art, by fine artists ONLY. Absolutely no retail or market-place type vendors will be allowed to participate.
Soleil's Take: This Fest has really grown over the years and has definitely become more dynamic! If you're over the flea market Fests, oversaturated with knock-off purses, belts, shades and bootleg CDs/DVDs, you'll find at Arts & Crafts Festival a refreshing change of pace!

Jazzin' at the Shedd - Detour JazFunk
Detour JazFunk, Chicago's preeminent contemporary jazz quartet. They take their listeners on a journey off the well worn path of those artists considered to be today's cutting edge "smooth jazz," by adding a touch of genuine old school funk and soul into their mix. Detour embarks on a musical voyage that offers something fresh, yet familiar to every aspect of your musical palette . . . not just for the jazz lover in you.
Soleil's Take: Detour JazFunk is one of my faves and this will definitely be a funky good time! Enjoy the sounds on the Shedd's terrace, overlooking the City skyline. Children are welcome and you'll find a mix of locals and tourists. Get there early because it can get crowded! View the entire Jazzin' at the Shedd schedule!
