ONGOING TO-DOS!

Greetings Sophisticate!

As Black History Month continues, I hope that you'll continue to use www.so-LAZE.com as a resource for all sorts of culturally-enrinching events and activities.  We have something for every budget, but if you are particularly broke, head straight over to our Cheap To-Dos page, where you'll find To-Dos priced at $10 and under! I'd also like to draw your attention to The Renaissance Collaborative's annual "friend"-raiser breakfast (featured in this To-DosLetter) - for only $10 you can celebrate history in the building that was the birthplace of Carter G. Woodson's Black history week!

Can you believe I've got another installment of Soleil In the City for you already?!?!  It's been fun and I look forward to sharing some more adventures with you!

This week we've launched a new advertising feature for the budget-conscious.  For only $25, you can shine a "Ray of Light" on your business or event with a post across our social media platforms (FaceBook, Twitter, Linked In and Plaxo) totaling approximately 8,000 people!  Contact me for details!

Whatever you decide To-Do, make it a fabulous week and an enlightening month - and enjoy the weather today!

Welcome Winter and Goodbye, Winter Whiners!

I am so tired of people whining about winter!  Everybody knows a few Winter Whiners.  They're the ones who can hardly make it to the first official day of winter without complaining:  "It's cold!"  Wah, wah, wah.  "I can't wait 'til spring."  Wah, wah, wah.  If that sounds like you, what you need is a fresh perspective on the joys of the season from a relocated So Cal Gal, so I'ma bring it to ya!  The most important thing is to not focus on the absence of sun and outdoor warmth.  Winter brings its own set of unique opportunities - here are a few of them!  Read the rest of this post . . .

SOLEIL IN THE CITY:  Chicago Auto Show - First Look for Charity

Aaah - the cars, the food, the people! The First Look for Charity is a fabulous way to get, well, a first look at the Chicago Auto Show - but don't count on it being your last look! There's a lot to see at the auto show, but kindly, most of the territory that you'll cover will be carpeted. In fact, it takes 133,333 square yards of carpet to cover the floor of the Chicago Auto Show, enough to carpet 571 average American homes. Ladies - can you imagine touring 571 homes? Back-to-back? In stilettos? In other words, plan your shoes accordingly - and let those plans include a return to the auto show.  Click through the photo to view the video clip!

FEATURED TO-DO:  The Renaissance Collaborative Annual Friend-raiser Breakfast

TRC Friend-raiser Breakfast

The Wabash YMCA, (now known as the Renaissance Apartments and Fitness for Life Center and owned by The Renaissance Collaborative ("TRC")) is located in the heart of "Bronzeville." This historic building has had close ties to the community from its inception. The former Wabash Y was the birth place for the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson and three friends, and was thereafter known as the birth place of Black History Month. Each year, in recognition of the historic role that the "Wabash Y" has played in the Bronzeville community, TRC engages the community in a topic of timely significance at its "Friendraiser" breakfast - only $10 per ticket!

Looking for more To-Do?

Visit www.so-LAZE.com for details about a ton of upcoming To-Dos (e.g., location, ticket and artist links, discount codes) and to use advanced calendar features, such as e-mail or text reminders and to add To-Dos to your personal calendar!  To-Dos are added daily, so be sure to visit www.so-LAZE.com for the most current listings!

(Note that, generally speaking, the "To-Do" description is either provided by the event host or copied and pasted from the cited website.  Sometimes we have to lend 'em a hand, but I just don't want you to think someone over here has time to write all that stuff!  Also, we suggest that you either click or call ahead to confirm no changes!!)

Soleil's Take:  Shelia says:

"I made an attempt to attend the Chicago Winter Dance Lessons in Millennium Park today, Sunday, but was met with a long line. The first lesson starts at 1:00pm and I arrived at 1:05pm. There were already 200 people on the dance floor with maybe another 100 in the balcony seats watching. The dance lesson for today was the swing and the participants were having a ball.

I will definitely try again next weekend and I plan on arriving by 11:30am to stand in line."

There's plenty of time to get ready for SummerDance, so be sure to see more Winter Dance dates!
