The Weekend Rundown!
Greetings, Sophisticate!

Tonight the 100 Black Women of Chicago presents its annual Summer Mixer.  Join them for cocktails, networking and to find out more about their organization.  Also tonight, The Experience with Eric Benét.  I'm including this as a tease because if you haven't already bought your ticket, you're going to miss out on this SOLD OUT To-Do!  But, you can still catch a glimpse of him on Friday as he hosts The Velvet Rope Affair, featuring TimBuck2, Mark Fullaflava and DJ Legacy mixin' up the sounds!

Angela Winbush performs this weekend at the Caribbean Festival & Jamaican Independence Celebration!  Enjoy good food, music - and, of course vendors!  But, the real party this weekend takes place at Gallery Guichard, during their third annual Art di Gras celebration!  It kicks off on Friday with Collector's Preview Champagne Reception, featuring harpist, Josefe Verna and an artists' talk from 8-9pm.  The celebration continues on Saturday with 12 hours of entertainment!  DJ Brian Sayles, Kahil el Zabar and the Ritual Trio, and neo-soul artist Lady J will provide the musical entertainment.  In addition, the day will include live art demonstrations by Derric Clemmons,  Mohameth Diagne, Ibou Diallo, Madiop Gueye, Ibou Thiam, Yonde Thiam,  Twin and Dale Washington, live body painting, food, assorted beverages, Grey Goose martinis, valet parking, and best of all--it's free!

The Annual Bud Billiken Parade is also on Saturday.  This favorite attracts a humungous crowd, so King Drive will definitely be hoppin'!  Bring your lawn chair, a change of clothes and make a day of it in Bronzeville.

On Friday, and on the second Friday of each month, the Hyde Park Art Center stays open until midnight for Cocktails and Clay!  Get your hands dirty in the Ceramics Studio, enjoy drink specials from the cash bar, explore the exhibitions and dance all night in the Main Gallery.

Big news:  The HotHouse is making a comeback!  The HotHouse was well-known for an incredible variety of international artists and kept us entertained for years at its beautiful East Balbo location.  The HotHouse shut its doors a few years ago due to a dispute with its landlord regarding real estate taxes.  On Friday, HotHouse presents Dominican Salve and Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena with Mofoe Orisha.  This To-Do is part of "Raices Fridays" at Las Tablas - A Weekly Celebration of Live Latin Music.  Enjoy live Latin music, fabulous food, and drink specials!

On Sunday, I'm really looking forward to the Summer Breeze Afro-Caribbean Celebration!  The Women's Board of the Chicago Urban League presents this 42nd Annual Benefit & Whitney M. Young, Jr. Scholarship Fundraiser at the beautiful Navy Pier Roof Top.  This To-Do features music by the Dreams Band and featured artist Jessica Fay Conley will be painting during the course of the event. Get your tickets now before it's too late!

Looking for live music?  Jill Scott, the Pointer Sisters, The Four Tops, Mamadou Diabate, Gentlemen of Leisure (SummerDance), Nabori (SummerDance), Ebony Hillbillies and Keb Mo are all available for your listening pleasure!

Looking for more To-Do?  There's plenty more at www.so-LAZE.com - so don't be a stranger!  Make it a fabulous weekend and please forward this e-mail to your friends!
