Well - we've got another long weekend coming up. But, it's not just another long weekend; rather, it's a day that is meant to be spent honoring Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy and renewing our commitment to the ideals that he stood and ultimately died for. It is also incumbent upon us to ensure that our youth recognize this important part of American history and that they understand their role, as American citizens, in advancing the cause of civil rights. Listed below are a number of suggestions for celebrating King's holiday! If you know of any other events that should be included in the To-Dos - I hope you'll share the information with us!

| Soleil's Pick: Black Creativity 2007: The Magic of Television and Film |
The Magic and Science of Cinema and Television [is] an interactive exhibit that explores the dynamic careers, technology and star power that make your favorite news programs, television shows and blockbuster movies possible. Guests will be able to explore the history, present and future of African Americans in front of, and behind, the camera, while learning about the challenges and rewards of working in this highly visible field. The exhibit will open as part of the Museum's annual Black Creativity celebration-a six-week program that highlights the achievements and heritage of African Americans.
Guests will enter the exhibit through a movie theater marquee and receive the "red carpet" treatment as they are introduced to some of the some of the African-American greats of the big and small screen through clips, vintage posters and displays. They will trace the history of African Americans in film and television, going as far back as the silent-film era of the early 1920s and Oscar Micheaux, the first African American to produce and direct a film.
Soleil's Take: Each year, Black Creativity assembles a fantastic exhibit that celebrates one of many forms of creative contributions that African-Americans have made and are making to society. During the exhibit, there are several special programs that are available for the whole family to enjoy. This year, as part of the Museum's anniversary celebration, admission is free through January 31st! Take advantage of this opportunity to introduce yourself and some young'uns to the contributions made by African-Americans to cinema and television. And, don't forget about the Annual Gala on January 26th for a fancy first look at the exhibit. For $300, you'll enjoy cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a fabulous 4-course dinner and live music by Terisa Griffin. Visit www.SoleilsToDos.com for all the details!
Price: Free (through January 31)!
