At the recent Board of Directors meeting it was noted that several members were unable to attend our Annual General Meeting and therefore the Club will gather the committee reports and mail a copy to all members.  Be sure to look for our Annual Report later this month.

Who We Are
South Edmonton Club Charter

The Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton serves the City of Edmonton and beyond.

With a motto of "We Build", a focus of "Children Priority One", our purpose is "To Collectively Serve Our Community" by doing projects and programs directed to children, the handicapped and the disadvantaged amongst us.

We fundraise to finance projects that will make our community a better and safer place to live and focus our limited resources efficiently and effectively on doing things that are needed, but not normally offered or done by anyone else.

Once the fundraising is done, we then get actively involved in the project by providing as much of the hands-on work as possible, thereby creating a "full service" atmosphere for our members.

Crystal Glass
As many of you have read, Alberta recently suffered a disaster with the wildfire distruction of nearly 40% of Slave Lake.  More than 7000 people (the entire population) was ordered to evacuate and many have lost everything.

Our own Ed Bean, and his company Crystal Glass, have responded.  The following was posted on Facebook by Ken Franczek, another of our members.

"Crystal Glass has noticed a gap between raising funds and central donation centres for people trying to donate money for the residents of Slave Lake who have been affected by the recent wild fires.  Here at Crystal Glass, we want to help make it easier for donations to be made and be used effectively for the people of Slave Lake.   To help support the relief efforts for the residents of Slave Lake, Crystal Glass will be collecting monetary donations at all Alberta stores beginning today, May 17, 2011, until May 31, 2011.  Ed Bean, founder of Crystal Glass Canada Ltd., will start off the Crystal Glass Slave Lake Donation Drive with $25,000.  All donations collected will be passed on to Edmonton Emergency Relief Services who will then facilitate the use of all money donated to directly benefit the residents of Slave Lake.   More information about Edmonton Emergency Relief Services can be found at http://www.eerss.ca/."

Ed, we are proud, but not surprised.  You, and your company, truly are part of our community.

I've been on a diet for two weeks and all I've lost is fourteen days.
