Dear FACETS Friends,
Thank you so much for your continued support! April has been a busy month for us at FACETS. As a part of our new Triumph program, we have moved five formerly homeless singles into new apartments! We have also moved an additional three singles into permanent housing this month. Thanks to many generous donations, and help from wonderful volunteers, we were able to move these singles into completely furnished apartments. Additionally, with support from our faith partners, we were also able to hand out 97 Spring Baskets this month to children living in the affordable housing communities we serve. Your support truly helped brighten their days!
FACETS' vital programs would not be possible without the support of our wonderful volunteers - their dedication is the key to our successes in reducing homelessness in Fairfax County. April is National Volunteer Month, and we want to take the time to thank all of our many wonderful volunteers. You will see there is a new addition to the volunteer portion of our website to thank everyone that has volunteered in the past year! As a part of National Volunteer Month Celebrations, Volunteer Fairfax hosted their 18th Annual Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards. On Friday morning, April 23rd, hundreds of volunteers, non-profit organizations, area businesses, elected officials, and community leaders gathered for breakfast, and to celebrate the achievements of the countless volunteers in our Fairfax community. FACETS was well represented at the event, and we joined in recognizing a few of our star volunteers from last year: Sue Duka, Nella Farley, Karen Ralph and Ted Ralph. We also recognized Frank Palmer, who contributed over 800 hours of volunteer service to FACETS last year! Please join us in thanking these individuals for their service to FACETS, and again, we truly value all of our volunteers. Thank you!
For more information about FACETS, please visit FACETS' website for up-to-date volunteer opportunities, pantry needs, and ways to contribute financially. Thank you for your support! All the best,

FACETS would like to thank everyone who contacted their supervisor to ensure that this critical piece in the economic growth of the county was adopted into the budget. Volunteer Spotlight:
Front Desk volunteer Stacey Boden has only been working with the FACETS team for about a month, but by the way she comfortably laughs and jokes with our clients you would think it was much longer.
Stacey decided to volunteer when she got laid off from her job at the National Association of Realtors. She had always admired her younger brother, Paul Boden for his commitment to working with people in need, and when she lost her job she decided it was the perfect opportunity for her to make an impact in the community.
Stacey used the popular website Volunteer Fairfax to locate local organizations that were looking for volunteers. She went to volunteer orientations at some other local organizations but settled on FACETS because of the quality of the orientation. "The orientation that Carrie did really inspired me. It wasn't a half-hazard introduction to the organization; it demonstrated the depth of the things that [FACETS] does."
Stacey's favorite part about working with FACETS is getting to meet the clients. She's looking forward to volunteering more hours to help with the upcoming office move. Overall, from her volunteer experience Stacey hopes that she can learn from FACETS and continue to help and impact the lives of people in need. |
