Dear FACETS Friends,

Thank you for all of your support for FACETS and for helping us meet the growing needs of the thousands of families and singles who are homeless in Fairfax County.  We hope you have all marked your calendars and are planning to come to our exciting events in November!

As we gear up for another year of the Hypothermia Prevention Response program, FACETS is pleased to announce that we are moving nine homeless singles who might otherwisDon and Barbarae be participating in the Hypothermia program this winter into their own HOME!  Indeed, just last week FACETS moved two more people into our Supportive Housing program, including Don (pictured to the right with his case manager, Barbara).  You can meet Don and other FACETS clients at our upcoming auction on November 14th - A Taste of Fall with FACETS - so it will be a great opportunity to hear how your support has truly touched the life of someone in need.

Also, don't forget to come out for FACETS' Community Walkathon this Sunday, November 8th, at Robinson Square (4400 St Edwards Place, Fairfax, VA - right across from George Mason University).  Stop by anytime between 12:45pm and 4pm for fun games and activities, and help FACETS walk to end homelessness!!

FACETS serves thousands of families and singles each year thanks to your support.  One of our former clients, who is now living in her own townhouse with her children and recently received a huge promotion at her job, emailed her case manager this evening and said, "Every time I think of you or FACETS I just am so grateful. I have come so far in such a small amount of time. I am in a really happy place right now. Thanks so much."  She will be speaking at A Taste of Fall with FACETS, so please come out to hear her story on November 14th!

Please visit FACETS' website for up-to-date volunteer opportunities, pantry needs, and ways to contribute financially.  Thank you for your support!

All the best,

The FACETS Family

Current Volunteer Needs

FACETS needs your help this holiday season!!
Each year, we try to make the holidays as uplifting as possible for our clients, and we rely on volunteers like you to help bring smiles to their faces!  Please scroll down to see some of our seasonal volunteer opportunities.  For more information about how you can help, please contact Carrie Idol at 703-865-4251.

  • Turkey Cooks - We need help preparing turkeys for the Thanksgiving meal on November 26! We are looking for volunteers to pick up turkeys from our office on Tuesday, Nov. 24th, prepare them at home (cooking, and slicing the meat), and deliver the turkeys to the kitchen in Fairfax where Thanksgiving meals will be prepared on the morning of November 26th. Please let us know if you're able to take one - or more!
  • Dessert Preparers - We need help preparing dessert for the Thanksgiving meal on Thursday!  This is a great opportunity for a family or two; we need volunteers to make desserts at home, individually bag or package them if possible, and deliver the desserts to the kitchen in Fairfax where Thanksgiving meals will be assembled on either Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 25th or Thursday morning, Nov. 26th.
  • Thanksgiving Meal Delivery - Help is needed to deliver Thanksgiving meals between 11:30 am and 1 pm on November 26th. Meals will be delivered to our three regular Hot Meals stops, all along Route 50 in Fairfax.  This is another great opportunity for a family volunteer project on Thanksgiving day!  Volunteers will meet at the kitchen in Fairfax where meals are being prepared to load up their vehicles at 11:30 am (large SUV or vans are helpful, but not required), and will proceed to their designated stop to pass out meals.  Delivery should be complete no later than 1 pm.

We will be preparing a similar meal for the Christmas holiday as well.  If you're interested, but not available to help on Thanksgiving, mark your calendar to help on December 25th!

FACETS' Mentoring Program

  • We need male mentors! Currently, we have a shortage of men who are available to mentor boys in our Education and Community Development programs.  Mentoring can make a real impact in the life of low-income, at-risk youth and is an incredibly rewarding experience.  If you are at least 18 years old, and would like to get involved in this wonderful program, please contact Carrie Idol for more information about how you can get involved.
