Advocacy Issues: What FACETS is doing...and how YOU can help!
Over the past two years
FACETS' board of directors has prioritized restructuring programs to be in line
with the Fairfax-Falls Church Ten Year Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness.
As many of you know, we have seen an enormous increase in the number of families and singles in need of help during the past year and we are focusing all of our efforts on ensuring that the needs of these people do not go unmet. Most recently, FACETS' board and staff went through extensive planning to focus
existing resources and expand our collaborations with other service agencies in Fairfax County. By expanding our collaborative efforts, FACETS will be working extensively with our partners to strengthen and expand a public-private social services network for homelessness prevention, diversion
and rapid re-housing. This will be
accomplished by implementing what is known as regionally-based Housing Opportunities Support
Teams or HOST sites/teams within Fairfax
County, which are at the foundation of
the recently adopted Ten Year Plan in Fairfax County.
FACETS' existing collaborations
will be expanded to include additional services that may be required such as
benefit workers, employment specialists, mental health specialists and mentors.
Under the HOST model, FACETS and its partners will also work collaboratively
with the County's Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, local businesses and
faith-based organizations. The HOST
model includes outreach services to those who are in danger of losing their
housing and ensures that people are not being discharged from institutions into
homelessness.
FACETS is very excited about this new direction for our services and programs, which will allow us to partner more effectively with other organizations, while focusing on rapidly rehousing those who have become homeless and preventing homelessness for those who are on the brink of losing their home. If you have any questions or would like to discuss how you can help, please contact FACETS' Executive Director, Amanda Andere.
How can you help?
Please join FACETS at the upcoming advocacy discussions and panels on homelessness! Please click here for the calendar.
For more information about any of these events, please contact Tycie Young or click here to visit FACETS' Advocacy page on our website. |
Current Volunteer Needs
- Event Invitation Mailing Help - Friday, October 16th - Monday, October 19th
FACETS is sending invitations to our upcoming events early next week to our supporters in Fairfax and we need your help to label and tab the invitations. You can even take the invitations with you and label in the comfort of your own home! If you are able to help, please contact Deborah Heller for more information!
- Help FACETS' clients this holiday season!
There are many ways to get involved:
- Adopt a Family - provide one or more families in need with a Thanksgiving food basket and/or December gifts and a food basket. Click here to view the basket form.
- Donate toys
to FACETS in December - each year, FACETS holds holiday parties for the
children living at the three public housing communities we serve and
enable the children to "shop" for toys for their siblings. We
especially need toys for older kids and high school students.
- Do you have a group of friends that would like to volunteer or coordinate one of FACETS' Holiday parties for homeless and low-income youth this December? For more information, please contact Deborah Heller.
- Fall Educational and Enrichment Program Volunteers
Our Fall Educational and Enrichment programs will be starting the week of
September 28th at all three community centers, and we need your help!
Volunteers are needed to help lead and support programs such as Homework Help,
Computer Lab, Girl Power, Boys Group, and more. Currently, we have a shortage of men who are available to mentor boys in our Education and Community Development programs. Mentoring can make a real impact in the life of low-income, at-risk youth and is an incredibly rewarding experience. If you are at least 18 years old, and would like to get involved in this wonderful program, please contact Tycie Young for more information about how you can get involved.
