Dear FACETS Friends,

We hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer!  This is a very busy time of the year for FACETS, but as usual, it is also a very rewarding time. We are  finishing up yet another successful School Supply Drive, which provided hundreds of homeless and low-income youth school supplieswith all of the necessary supplies they will need to get the school year off to the right start.  We extend a special thanks to Fairfax Circle Baptist church, which hosted one of the four School Supply Drive parties for our youth, allowing them to "shop" for all of their supplies in a fun and interactive environment!

As many of you know, we have experienced a huge increase in the number of homeless singles and families in search of assistance, so we are currently preparing for what is likely to be an even busier fall and winter.  The increasing numbers have taken a toll on our pantry, which is currently lacking many staple items (canned goods, diapers, batteries, etc), so please contact us if you are able to host a monthly drive or are able to drop off some canned goods.

We are still looking for faith communities to host a week or provide volunteers for the Hypothermia Prevention Response program, so please contact Barbara Tate at 703-352-5090 if you can help!

FACETS is excited to announce its presence on Facebook!  We will be posting up-to-date announcements about our programs, events, volunteer opportunities, etc, so please become a "Fan" and check out our Facebook page regularly!  We also encourage you to invite all of your friends to become fans of FACETS - it is a great way to raise awareness about homelessness in our community. Please click here to view the FACETS Page!

Please contact Tycie Young at 703-352-5090 or visit FACETS' website for up-to-date volunteer opportunities, pantry needs, and ways to contribute financially.  Thank you for your support!

All the best,

The FACETS family

FACETS Makes a Difference!

Each year, FACETS' Motel Outreach program provides critical case management and emergency support to homeless families that are on the five month waiting list to get into one of Fairfax County's shelters.  FACETS' ultimate goal is to rapidly re-house these families, enabling them to bypass the homeless shelters altogether.  Therefore, FACETS' case managers spend countless hours working to improve their budgeting skills, find jobs, and improve their education, while also ensuring that they have enough food, clothes, and other needed items to make their stay in the motel as tolerable as possible.

Recently, FACETS helped a family of four that found themselves homeless after their home was foreclosed upon.  After being put on the homeless shelter wait list, they moved into one of the motels that FACETS serves and after some very hard work they were able to save enough money to move out within two months and rent an apartment.  FACETS' case manager helped them to obtain a credit report, and then helped them dispute inaccuracies within the report.  She also helped the wife find a job and helped the husband get into the certificate program with NVSF for construction.

The wife recently wrote saying: "The kids, Jason and I are great! We've moved into our home and everything is going really well :) We really do appreciate all of your help and hope for us. I am now looking to become a dental hygienist."

Thanks to you, FACETS is able to make a difference in the lives of thousands of families like this one each year.  Thank you!
Volunteer Needs

FACETS' Pantry

FACETS has witnessed a huge increase in the number of homeless families and singles in need of food and supplies and our pantry is running low on many items.  Please consider holding a Drive for FACETS or collecting canned goods/diapers/batteries/tents/etc for our pantry yourself.  For more information, please contact Carrie Idol at 703-352-5090 or visit our website.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

With thousands of people who are homeless in Fairfax, volunteering is a wonderful way to help FACETS provide critical services that can truly make a difference in the lives of our clients.  We have many opportunities available for individuals, groups and students so please consider volunteering in a way that fits your interests, skills, and availability.  Monthly drives for our pantry are an excellent way for businesses, civic groups, and Girl/Boy Scout Troops to provide an invaluable service for the hundreds of homeless individuals and families that come to our office each month.  To learn more about monthly supply drives, please call Carrie Idol at 703-352-5090.

There are a number of ways you can get involved, and these are some of our current needs.  If you're interested, or would like more information, please contact us at volunteer@facetscares.org or 703-352-5090.
