Dear FACETS friends,
Welcome to the March issue of The Open Door. As always, many thanks to all of you for your continued dedication to FACETS' mission to end homelessness in Fairfax County. Thanks to the support and dedication of more than 1,000 volunteers, more than 40 faith communities, and the Fairfax County government, FACETS' Hypothermia Prevention Response Program sheltered and fed more than 300 men and women who might otherwise have spent the winter months in the bitter cold. Thank you! FACETS is very excited to announce our new Executive Director, Amanda Andere, who will begin on April 6, 2009! She is extremely talented and we are looking forward to her leadership as FACETS continues to provide critical services and programs for the thousands of people who are homeless or living in one of three public housing communities (Robinson Square, Ragan Oaks, and Barros Circle) in Fairfax County. PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
Another Successful Year for the Hypothermia Prevention Response Program!
The Hypothermia Prevention
Response Program concluded on March 17th, after successfully sheltering more
than 300 men and women from the bitter cold this winter. The program
entered its fifth year this winter, running from November 23, 2008 - March 18, 2009
and once again relied on the commitment of area faith communities and more than
1,000 volunteers to open up their hearts and doors to people who were in
need. By providing shelter, hot meals, and the fellowship of friends, the
men and women who volunteered in this program truly saved lives this
winter. Thank you!
The following are just a few of the comments and words of thanks from guests
who participated in the 2008-2009 program.

"Both the FACETS staff and church people were inspirational. Thank you for keeping us safe and warm this winter." -- Anonymous
"Thanks for all of your BIG HEARTS!" -- Sincerely, Allen
"Having a place to stay and warm food to eat was excellent!! -- Anonymous
"The volunteers at the churches were very welcoming and tried to make dinner as pleasant as possible given the circumstances. I really appreciated the dinners and having a place to stay. It enabled me to save money so I could find a shared living-arrangement. Thanks so much for all that you did for us." -- Anonymous
