Dear FACETS friends,

Welcome to the February issue of The Open Door.  As always, many thanks to all of you for your continued dedication to FACETS' mission to end homelessness in Fairfax County.

FACETS continues to work hard to fight homelessness through our various programs, like the Hypothermia Prevention Response Program, Hot Meals, the Shelter and Motel Outreach programs, Medical Outreach, Educational programs, and many more.  Because of your support, we have been able to help thousands of individuals in just the past year.  Thank you!

The last few weeks have been marked by some changes at FACETS, so this edition of The Open Door will be slighty different than usual.  Jim Brigl, FACETS' CEO since 2006, has resigned and has included a farewell letter to all of FACETS' friends and supporters.  FACETS' Board President, Jerry Poje, has included a message to all of you, as well.

Please check out FACETS' new and improved website for up-to-date information about all of our programs, services, and volunteer opportunities.

Thank you for all of your support!  We hope you will continue helping FACETS move people out of homelessness and into homes.

Best wishes,

A Farewell Letter from Jim Brigl,
CEO of FACETS

Jim
Dear friends and supporters of FACETS,

I want to let you know how grateful I am for the support you have given FACETS during the time I have been privileged to serve as its leader!

I am leaving the CEO position at FACETS but will remain one of its biggest cheerleaders.  During the total of five years I have been an employee of this great organization, three as its CEO, I have been inspired by all of you.  Because of your commitment and support, strong leadership by our Board and the tremendous contributions of a very talented staff, FACETS has been able to both grow our long time services and add significantly to them.

This is the fifth year that we, with many of you and your faith communities, have nightly protected hundreds of persons on the street and in the woods in our area from the ravages of winter.  More than that, we have welcomed them into our midst and treated them with love and respect.  And then this:  you took the gigantic step to begin giving the gift of stable housing to our neighbors.  This year, 10 fewer folks needed to take advantage of church hospitality by sleeping on their floors.  Instead, they were in their apartments sleeping in their own beds.  You did that.  Thank you.

And don't forget all the other things you do ... early intervention services to hundreds of youths, tens of thousands of hot meals are provided each year, outreach to homeless families who have to wait for space in the shelters, medical outreach to those on the streets, services and support to those living in motels, and so much more.

Now more than ever, our guests, clients, neighbors - whatever name you give them - both appreciate and need your faithful support.

Remember me, too, as I take on new responsibility as the Executive Director of Sarah's Circle in Washington, D.C.  This great organization offers affordable housing and wellness services to low income seniors in the Adams Morgan area.  As a youth I was blessed with wonderful grandparents.  The elderly is a group of folks that I have long desired to learn from, serve and love.  I've finally given myself that opportunity, and I take with me my love for all who make up FACETS.

Peace to you!

Jim Brigl
A message from FACETS' Board President,
Jerry Poje

Dear friends and supporters,

On behalf of FACETS' Board, I want to thank Jim Brigl for his wonderful service, most particularly over the last three years as our Chief Executive.

Jim has worked tirelessly to build and strengthen the organization from a core level and he will continue to be a committed supporter of FACETS.

Jim's leadership has been exemplary.  He has upheld the dignity of our clients, been faithfully committed to our staff, volunteers, partners and donors and has brought integrity and professionalism to our operations.

Thanks to Jim's direction, FACETS has successfully strengthened our strategic partnerships with Fairfax County and with Communities of Faith.  As a result, FACETS now provides long term housing for 10 people and one family.

Thanks to Jim, FACETS is now better prepared to meet the ever-growing needs of our clients.  Most importantly his passion for ending homelessness has nurtured a spirit of hopefulness in Fairfax County.

While we will miss his daily presence in our offices and service sites, we celebrate his continuing work in the non-profit community at Sarah's Circle, where he will oversee housing and wellness for low income seniors.

FACETS is bigger than any one individual and thanks to Jim the organization is now poised to achieve its goals because of the infrastructure and proven models he has put in place. Jim is leaving after having achieved many of the objectives set out for him by the board and FACETS is a better organization as a result.

FACETS' Board of Directors is very strong, diverse and fully engaged in our mission.  In collaboration with our experienced and knowledgeable staff, we will continue Jim's good work and make FACETS stronger through this transition.  FACETS will operate on a business-as-usual basis until a replacement is found.

Thanks to all for your continuing support and commitment.
