FACTS ABOUT HOMELESSNESS

With home foreclosures and the unemployment rate on the rise, it is no surprise that FACETS is facing an ever increasing number of calls from people in critical need of our programs and services.

  • There are more than 1,800 people who are homeless in Fairfax and the waitlist to get into a homeless shelter is several months long.
  • 75% of all homeless youth are under the age of 12.

The sheer number of people who are homeless continues to increase each year and the waitlist to get into a homeless shelter is often months long.  To read more, click here.

Now, more than ever, we need your help to break the cycle of homelessness.

Dear FACETS Supporter,

Welcome to the October issue of The Open Door.  Remember to come to the Fall for FACETS Auction on November 8th It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about FACETS' programs, while also getting the opportunity to win some fantastic items.  To learn more about the Auction click here.

It is unlikely to be a surprise that the struggling economy has had a devastating affect on individuals and families that are homeless or on the brink of homelessness in Fairfax.  Now, more than ever, FACETS needs your help to break the cycle of homelessness in Fairfax.

To celebrate the beginning of the giving season, FACETS is very excited to announce the Home for the Holidays Challenge, which will run throughout the months of November and December and will raise money for the Home Connections Permanent Supportive Housing Program.  With an especially cold winter predicted this year, it is vital to house as many people as possible as quickly as possible and, for as little as $1 a day, you could be part of this momentous opportunity to really END homelessness.  Click here to read about the Permanent Supportive Housing Program and stay tuned for more information!

Thank you for your support and for helping FACETS break the cycle of homelessness in Fairfax!

Best wishes,

Tycie Young

A Letter from a FACETS Client

Dear FACETS,
Many thanks for all that you have done for me.  The dentures you have provided me with have been like a miracle in my life.  Not only can I eat things like peanuts, which I haven't eaten in three years, I can smile at the world and know that I look good.  Even though I am still homeless and am waiting for Section 8 housing, I shouldn't have a problem finding work with this new smile you all have given me.
I am forever grateful.

Sincerely yours,

A FACETS Client**
