surprise that FACETS is facing an ever increasing number of calls from
people in critical need of our programs and services.
- Did you know that 66% of homeless adults in families are actually employed?
- Or that more than one-third of the people who are homeless in Fairfax are children?

Dear FACETS Supporter,
Welcome to The Open Door! Now, more than ever, FACETS needs your help to break the cycle of homelessness in Fairfax.
In the past year, FACETS has significantly expanded its services to
better meet the needs of our clients by introducing the Home Connections Permanent Supportive Housing Program. The combination of our 20 years of experience with this spirit of innovation has put us in a position to uniquely address the comprehensive needs of the families and individuals who are struggling even more in the wake of the nation's current economic difficulties. But we need your support to continue meeting the growing needs of people who are homeless in this area.
There are many ways you can help, so please remember to sign up for one of FACETS' Help the Homeless mini-walks in October or the main walkathon on November 22, and to RSVP November 8th for FACETS' Annual Fall for FACETS Auction! Please see below for details and more information about these exciting events.
Many people in Fairfax are simply unaware that homelessness is a real problem in this area, so please forward this e-newsletter onto your friends and family and help FACETS raise awareness about the growing number of people who are homeless.

Current Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in helping out? FACETS has a number of ways you can get involved, and these are some of
our current needs. Holiday Drive Donations - Autumn is finally here and FACETS is preparing for our annual Holiday Drive, in which baskets of food are collected for families and individuals who would otherwise go hungry during the holiday season. If you are able to donate, please email volunteer@FacetsCares.org for more information.
Front Desk Volunteers are Needed! Volunteers play a critical role at FACETS and we are currently looking for individuals who are able to commit to one or more mornings or afternoons each week to answer phones and greet people as they come into the FACETS office. If you are able to help, please email volunteer@FacetsCares.org for more information.
Tutor - Would you like to make a real difference in the life of a child? Consider becoming a tutor! Please email volunteer@FacetsCares.org for information about how you can help.

Upcoming Events
Help the Homeless Walkathon and Mini-walks!
FACETS is participating in the Help the Homeless Walkathon this year and we need your help! Please consider walking in one of FACETS two mini-walkathons on October 18th or October 25th. Mini-walkathons only include about 15 minutes of walking and are a fantastic and easy way to raise money to support FACETS' programs. 9th Annual Fall for FACETS Auction!
FACETS' 9th Annual Fall for FACETS Auction is being held on November 8th at the Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale Campus. There are some fantastic auction items this year, including a "Wall of Wine," gift certificates to some of the area's best restaurants, including the Inn at Little Washington and Marrakesh, Golf packages, a donation from P. Buckley Moss, weekend and week-long vacation homes in Colorado, the Carribean, and the Outerbanks, and much much more!!
The
evening will feature live music, delicious food from Shirley's Catering
and Gourmet Baskets, wine/beer, a silent auction and a live auction.
