Client Spotlight
Permanent Supportive Housing Changes Another Life
Michael was homeless for more than 20 years until he moved into
his apartment in March 2008. While he is
still adjusting to sleeping on a bed and finds the floor of his apartment more
comfortable some nights, he is so grateful to finally have a place to call home.
He loves his kitchen and adores cooking
himself a meal each night, often pork chops or a steak from one of the food
banks that he regularly visits. When asked by his social worker if he uses a
recipe book he replied, "Of course not."
He proudly stated his mother and grandmother taught him to cook many years ago
and he had no need to follow a recipe. Then he asked for an iron and an ironing
board so he could iron a suit for the church he has been attending.
Michael is one of 16 individuals that FACETS moved into
Permanent Housing last Spring and we are so pleased with all of their progress! If you are interested in helping more people
move out of homelessness and into homes, please consider donating to the Home
Connections Permanent Supportive Housing Program. Click here for more information about this exciting program.Thank you for your support!

Current Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in helping out? FACETS has a number of ways you can get involved, and these are some of
our current needs. Front Desk Volunteers are Needed! Volunteers play a critical role at FACETS and we are currently looking for individuals who are able to commit to one or more mornings or afternoons each week to answer phones and greet people as they come into the FACETS office. If you are able to help, please email volunteer@FacetsCares.org for more information.
Youth Program Volunteers - It's hard to believe that the school year is just around the corner, and
with that comes the start of FACETS' Fall Educational and Enrichment
Programs (Homework Help, Computer Lab, Exploring the Arts, etc)! If you would like to volunteer, please email us at volunteer@FacetsCares.org.
Tutor - Would you like to make a real difference in the life of a child? Consider becoming a tutor! Please email volunteer@FacetsCares.org for information about how you can help.
Motel Welcome Kits - Each month, families who are homeless and unable to find refuge in one of the local homeless shelters move into FACETS' motel program, which provides them with shelter, food, and counseling services until they are able to move into a homeless shelter or find other housing options. We are in great need of Welcome Kits, which are given to new families when they move into the motels. The kits provide basic necessities and help the families feel at home.
If you are able to put together a Motel Welcome Kit, please include the following:
Weekly Planner; Can Opener; Paper plates and bowls; Cups; Ziplock bags; Flashlight (with batteries); Bottled water; Pots and pans; Laundry detergent; Utensils; Disposable plastic containers; Dish soap; and Disinfectant wipes
