Interested in helping out? FACETS has a number of ways you can get involved, and these are some of
our current needs. If you're interested,
or would like more information, please contact us at volunteer@facetscares.org or
703-352-5090.
Educational and Enrichment Programs - Volunteers are needed to help at all three community centers for our summer programs!
Front Desk - Volunteers needed to staff
the office front desk from 8:30 am to 12 noon Friday mornings. Duties would include receptionist coverage,
client reception and other administrative tasks depending on the volunteer's interests
and skills. Motel Welcome Kits - Each month, families who are homeless and unable to find refuge in one of the local homeless shelters move into FACETS' motel program, which provides them with shelter, food, and counseling services until they are able to move into a homeless shelter or find other housing options. We are in great need of Welcome Kits, which are given to new families when they move into the motels. The kits providebasic necessities and help the families feel at home.
If you are able to put together a Motel Welcome Kit, please include the following: Weekly Planner; Can Opener; Paper plates and bowls; Cups; Ziplock bags; Flashlight (with batteries); Bottled water; Pots and pans; Laundry detergent; Utensils; Disposable plastic; Containers; Dish soap; and Disinfectant wipes

A FACETS Success Story!
FACETS often works with women who find themselves homeless after leaving an abusive environment. Dianne is just one example of many women who find themselves homeless, jobless, and scared after working up the courage to flee their home.
After suffering extensive mental and physical abuse, Dianne and her children finally managed to escape an increasingly dangerous domestic violence situation. She had a past
history of drug and alcohol abuse but had been sober for two years; however the
stress of the situation almost pushed her into a relapse. Luckily, Dianne
was referred to FACETS' motel program just in time.
FACETS connected her
to Alcohol and Drug services where she began an outpatient treatment program,
which included attending AA sessions almost daily. FACETS was also able
to support her in the completion of a college degree by helping to pay for a
certification required for her program. After only two months of
working with FACETS, Dianne had obtained a full-time job, attended mental
health and substance abuse treatments regularly, and started saving money for
housing. FACETS then helped Dianne apply for a transitional housing
program where she is currently living.
Dianne graduated from FACETS'
motel program 6 months ago and we are happy to report that she is flourishing!
She recently called to check in and to thank FACETS for all the help she
received, stating that her children are now all doing well emotionally and
physically. In addition, she has
finished her substance abuse treatment program, has enrolled in spring classes,
and will be obtaining her degree in the fall! She remarked that the
stability of having a place to call "home" has been the most important thing in
helping her to accomplish the goals she set forth for herself and family. Congratulations Dianne!
