Pain Relief

SEPTEMBER 2009 ISSUE 4

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

Hope you are all enjoying these last days of summer, although here in the northeast many of us feel that it is just beginning.

With the end of summer comes that "clean notebook" approach to life. We think it's a great time to begin to get your financial house in order. Take time to organize all of your receipts, bank statements and other documents that you'll need when tax time rolls around . You'll be glad you did.

And back by popular demand, we are again offering our Quickbooks II class. You can join us in our Woburn office for a small, highly interactive, hands-on QB training that will teach you everything you need to know in  order to get the most out of this powerful software. The cost is just $249. Fall classes are forming now so call or email us for more information.

And don't forget-- our certified pain relief is always just a phone call away!

As always, give me a call with any questions you may have! All the best,

Cindy

CA Brandt Goes Green: Our Offices Institute Comprehensive "Green Practices" Policy

All tax returns, taxpayer documents, audit, review and compilation working papers and reports are now being stored in an electronic filing cabinet.  Documents going back as far as 2006 have all been scanned and are now stored in the electronic file cabinet.

With the exception of the very small number of states that are not yet set up to accept electronically filed income tax returns, all tax returns prepared by CA Brandt are submitted to the Internal Revenue Service and State Taxing Authorities electronically.

Clients of CA Brandt now have the option of submitting their tax information via an electronic Tax Notebook.  The Notebook walks the client through the various types of information they need to submit, poses pertinent questions, and allows them to key in their information.  We are then able to create a tax return from this tax notebook through an interface with our tax preparation software.

It is the firm's practice to provide clients with a copy of their tax returns and/or financial statements that we prepare.  We will still provide paper copies to those who request them but electronic copies are available and will be sent to all who do not request paper.

Faxes are now being sent and received directly to and from our desktop computers.  No more feeding documents into the fax only to find out that what was received at the other end was illegible.

A quarterly newsletter is now being sent to all those in our electronic database.  We have procedures in place to ensure that we obtain an email address for every client and business associate of the firm.

We're proud to lead the way in establishing ecologically-sound best practices for professional service firms such as ours!

Have any other ideas? We'd love to hear them! Email us!

ASK CINDY

What is the most common mistake people make when hiring a financial advisor?

The tax laws are constantly changing and tax professionals are also subject to various federal and state regulations.  It is important to find someone who is experienced, trustworthy and someone you are comfortable with.  Below are some of the questions you might ask:

What licenses or designations do you have?

How long have you been in the tax business?

What tax issues do you specialize in?

Do you have the knowledge and experience to handle my tax situation?

What are your fees?
Do you outsource any of your work? Do you perform the work personally? If not, what is the review process? Who signs the returns?

How long, approximately, will it take to finish my taxes?

What's your privacy policy? Will you share my tax information with any third-parties?
